DIY Tiny House for a 6’5″ Builder: Standing-Height Loft and SketchUp Planning

Nick had always admired tiny homes, and with parents in the construction industry and some money in his pocket, he finally decided it was time to build one.

He’s quite tall at 6’5″, so he made sure everything in his tiny house worked for his height. He’s even potty-training his cat so that he doesn’t have to store a litter box inside. What do you think of this awesome build?

  • SketchUp is valuable for DIY tiny house planning — Digital modeling before building prevents costly mistakes
  • Family construction knowledge transfers to tiny builds — Nick leveraged his parents’ industry experience

  • Creative solutions eliminate space-wasting necessities — Potty-training the cat removes the need for litter box storage
  • Standing-height lofts are possible with careful design — Tall builders can create lofts they don’t have to crawl into
  • Self-building requires planning but delivers customization — Every dimension can be tailored to the occupant

Nice job Nick! One can sure tell that you built it for yourself as a VTP….very tall person. You only have 4 steps to the upstairs plus the pull out, which is a clever idea. I was married to a VTP who was 6’7” and I know what it was like for him living in a miniature world! So enjoy your made to order house.
