Nice wee home. When I think of craftsman I think of Green & Green or Gustav Stickly. The design ideas seem to be absent and the highlighting of joinery isn’t there but it looks alright and I suppose one could add the needed interior design elements to suggest a craftsman style home. The lighting and big box store cabinets don’t help. Perhaps a folding roof over the front door to receive guests could be added. Sadly when a builder claims to do a craftsman home folks think warm woods fine joinery and stained glass with metal castings to suit. It’s a high price and looks nice but I think they hurt themselves when they claim to be of that grade of construction. From the pictures they appear to be competent builders,I would like to see more of their work. Thanks for sharing this.
Just look up the company, they’ve been around for a few years now and have quite a few homes you can look up to check out…
A note, though, the Craftsman style originated in simplicity and functionality that made them more easily accessible by hard working home owners who at the time were more likely to build the home themselves and could make each unique and functional to their needs.
They did evolve over time but unlike Victorian style, Craftsman doesn’t always lead with aesthetics and there are certain practicalities that have to be kept in mind for a structure that has to remain easily movable and within road legal size limits that limit to what extent you can do certain designs.
Options like a fold out patio on the side of the home would only work by taking some space away from the interior to make room for the folded sections that have to remain within the road legal size limits while it is being moved.
Everything has trade offs but there are also other aspects of a modern home to consider like how the home performs, how energy efficient it will be, how durable and low maintenance, how easy or hard it will be to move, how well it can handle being towed along the highways at up to over 60+MPH and experiencing the equivalent of a earthquake and a hurricane at the same time… So level of construction and build quality isn’t always going to be obvious or easy to discern by just looking at it…
For example, the cabinets are custom built, the hardware may all be from the store but cabinets in a tiny house have to be custom… They can’t be as deep or they’ll take away from the walkway space, they have to be adjusted to different floor plans and work around obstructions like the wheel wells or limited height when under a loft, they often have to work with non-standard appliances of different dimensions, each client can want different looks and features, etc.
Among other details of the home that require quite a bit more work than you may think by just looking at it…
James D. thanks. I know what your taking about. I recently retired after 52 years in home building. I don’t use the word custom or eclectic as builders most often use these words wrongly to impress unwitting buyers. If we are building for the client it’s custom,no need to say it and eclectic is stuff the client has gathered through out their lives so you can’t go to a shop and buy it. My shop is a cabinet makers dream. I am designing my third tiny house, with shop made cabinets as well as doors made in house. I revile MDF cabinets and doors, they are not custom or worth my time to produce. Turns out I’m allergic to the glue used to bond the MDF so I can’t inflict it on others. I just got myself a large mortising press to make entry doors,or interior doors. My apologies when I said I would like to see more of their work I meant in person. The way the bathroom was done is great. The shower is very nice. Craftsman style design was in retaliation to industrialization. My interior designer gave me quite the lecture so I read up on it. That’s when we became devotees of Green and Green. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. May the gods be kind to you.
This one is a show house, so if you visit them you can go see it in person or wait and see if they take it to showroom/fair near you as it has been to at least one such public event…
Btw, they also have a youtube channel and recently posted a tour video of this one.
What a beautiful home. The bathroom is to die for, the kitchen is exquisite and I usually don’t like a downstairs bedroom (I love lofts) but this one is not bad. All in all an amazing house 😍
well it is a nice house. Way out of my price range. The only thing I would change is where the bathroom sink is. I would put it where they have the shelf next to toilet.
Shelf looks like a cabinet for a small washer dryer combo hence its location.
Love the exterior. The interior décor is very tastefully done and pleasing to the eye.
personally I love wallpaper, glad to see someone has the guts to use it and I must say with class. Job well done.
