After more than a decade in California, this couple downsized from a 6-bedroom home to a 400-square-foot park model at Village Farm in Austin, Texas to start their family. The layout includes a spacious great room, galley kitchen with farmhouse sink, and a full bathroom on the main level. A sleeping loft provides the primary bedroom space, while a rear office doubles as their daughter’s room.

Lessons from This Home
- Dual-Purpose Rooms Accommodate Growing Families: An office that doubles as a child’s bedroom demonstrates how flexible spaces allow families to grow without moving to larger homes
- Outdoor Living Space Extends Usable Area: A large front porch and garden effectively increase the living space beyond the 400-square-foot interior
- Farmhouse Sinks Work in Compact Kitchens: Choosing a large sink over additional counter space prioritizes function for a family that cooks at home
- Tiny House Communities Provide Infrastructure: Moving to an established community like Village Farm eliminates the challenge of finding land and navigating zoning on your own
- Extreme Downsizing is Possible with Intention: Going from 6 bedrooms to 400 square feet requires ruthless editing of possessions but proves large homes are not necessary for family life

What a beautiful home, so pretty and comfortable looking. Love the baby and her pup!
Really enjoying seeing tiny homes but after a while here’s the big problem:
They tell you about their cabinets and spice rack and go on and on and on and on. My suggestion: in the first sentence say the square foot and the price.
Most of these videos go on and on. They tell you how nice it is. They never tell you the price or what model or anything. A lot of them are $120-200,000. Completely ridiculous for most people. What good is a tiny home. If it’s not a tiny price. I’m left to conclude that this website is basically selling ad space.
Hi Kurt,
Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your thoughts. We understand that knowing the square footage and price upfront is important to many of our readers. We’ll work on incorporating this information at the beginning of our posts to make it easier for you to find the details you’re interested in.
Regarding the pricing, we strive to showcase a variety of tiny homes across different price ranges. While some can be quite expensive due to customizations and high-end features, we also feature more affordable options. We appreciate your patience as we continue to improve our content to better meet our audience’s needs.
Thanks again for your valuable feedback and for being part of the Tiny House Talk community.
Best,
Alex
Doesn’t look like their porch. Looks like their kitchen living space family pic.
