Check out this modern tiny studio designed as a ‘granny flat’ for visiting family members. In 2012 an Australian family had this studio designed by Taft|Studio for Architecture.

The family wanted to give their parents a nice place to stay while visiting for long summers. This allowed them to stay longer and feel more comfortable staying for months while their grandchildren were out of school.

They made the open living area include a small kitchen and dining table, along with plenty of cabinets. Take a close look at the colorful back splash in the kitchen area. It’s made from stacked Legos with a piece of glass over it. Cool, right?

Nestled inside is also a compact bedroom and bathroom. Giving them plenty of privacy away from the main living house.  The studio is connected to the main house by a deck with a covered veranda.

In my eyes I could live in this small space without a doubt.

There is a glass skylight that reaches the length of the tiny studio providing more natural light throughout. Also gives beautiful garden views surrounding the studio. The more windows/light the better in my opinion.

I can’t help being excited about shipping container tiny homes especially this one you’re about to see which is in Southern Portugal.

I guess it’s the bright color that attracted me to it at first. Then the modern flair the structure has that made me want to share it with you. What a beaut!

The architect Arnold Aarssen from Studio Arte envisions a new way of living using re-purposed containers. Even if it’s just a starter home for young people, a guest house, bed & breakfast, backyard office or art studio.

Made from an old shipping container this 40-foot structure, “could be a great economical living solution”, says Aarssen.

And the main living space is quite spacious while the outdoor terrace provides an inviting atmosphere to hang out in nature. In this model there is one bathroom and an outdoor kitchen.

In largely populated places like New York City and Brooklyn people are forced to use their creativity to make the tiniest of spaces functional for themselves. In this post you’ll get to see how a man in Brooklyn turned a tiny studio into an amazingly stylish and functional two bedroom apartment.

Since he has a roommate, the space needed to properly accommodate two adults. And in a place like Brooklyn, making the most out of a small space like they did can save you some serious money every single month. And that sure adds up over the years.

I thought you’d enjoy this story of a couple who’s living tiny in their 6′ x 9′ micro camper which happens to be a 1987 teardrop-like travel trailer.

But they have plans on upsizing into a more spacious 8′ x 20′ custom built tiny house on wheels. But for now, they’re content in their teardrop micro home.

I’ll let them tell you the story themselves below…

Since I’ve been getting several questions from readers related to families and tiny houses

I wanted to share my most recent thoughts on the idea of- let’s say- a family of 5 moving into a tiny home.

If you’re here it’s likely that you’re either thinking about moving your family into a tiny home

Or you might know somebody who has that ‘crazy’ idea.

Either way, I’m here to give you what I think are my most honest and helpful thoughts without the b.s.

I’ve been researching tiny living since 2009 and I care about every single one of you so I’d like to save you as much sweat, blood, and tears as possible.

Tiny houses on wheels, in my opinion, are not a great long-term solution for the majority of families with children.

And here’s why…

In this post I’m introducing you to Esther and Kenny who are a young couple who have designed, built, and now live simply in their 170 sq. ft. tiny home.

I was lucky enough to have the chance to interview them and they were nice enough to share their thoughts and experiences with all of us here at Tiny House Talk.

For me it’s always exciting when anybody decides to take charge with a small space. And it especially makes me happy to see young people doing it because I know how helpful it can be for them later on.

If you’re thinking of traveling with your future tiny house you might want to think about building something like this because it’s aerodynamic.

Not only that but it’s also lighter in weight too. And when you go inside I think you’ll be amazed at all that’s in there.

Granted, this is pretty big for a teardrop trailer but you could still consider it one if you wanted to.

I thought you’d also enjoy this DIY tiny house project. It involves a really inventive man who went from 2000 sq. ft. to a 160 sq. ft. micro home.

The owner/builder has been living in it for more than 5 years now. The micro home is very energy efficient and was very inexpensive to build.

He built it with the help of his brother. They designed and built it all themselves using mostly reclaimed materials.

I’m excited to share “The Box” tiny cabin with you today.

It’s a 215 sq. ft. home that Ralph Erskine hand built with the help of a friend beginning in 1941.

The goal was to create shelter for his wife and two baby girls on land given to him by a farmer friend.

As you’ll see below it’s just a two-room home.

The family ended up living in it for four years and Ralph later became known to become an influential designer in Sweden, England and Canada.
