Hi Alex and Tiny House Newsletter readers… Like you, I love tinkering around designing/building tiny houses especially as small as a house as possible but still have all the conveniences that you find in a ‘McMansion’.
I know the idea about tiny living is supposed to be living with less but if you can cram everything into a small- less than 300 sq. ft.- moveable home without making it claustrophobic…
Why not, right?
So here I’m showing you a 32′ long tiny house design I’ve recently finished working on. Let me know what ya think in the comments down below!

I’d also like to show you a 28′ design that’s obviously a bit shorter. It has less square footage but it could be used as a 3 bedroom young family tiny home or just a backyard guest building by utilizing two sleeping lofts. Check it out and let me know what you think below:

If you want to live in a tiny house the first piece of advice I’ve got for you is to take your time when designing your home. I’ve seen plenty of people design and build their first tiny home only to have to start all over later on because they didn’t think things through enough the first time around. That’s why I recommend spending time over here in our tiny house design 101 section which has free courses on how to create your own tailor made micro house.
SketchUp is another amazing tool (there’s a free version, too) that you can use to play around with any design ideas you might have. Or even just to mix and match ideas that you find here on our site or anywhere else as well. But enough design gibberish for now because right now I’d like to introduce you to Tuckerbox Homes, a relatively new tiny house design and construction project.

This 185 sq. ft. off-grid solar tiny house design was submitted as part of LaMar’s off grid tiny house design contest where you can win up to $500 if you submit a design before 6/30/14.
Jonathan Marcoux’s squared eco house is 12’3″ x 12’3″. It has a water harvesting system, solar heating, solar panels, aquaponics farming system, and more.
Construction will be primarily 2″x4″. Heating will be provided mainly by firewood but a propane system can be integrated as a back up. Water heating in the summer is taken care of by a solar roof water heater. In the winter the wood stove can be used to heat water. And a propane instant hot water heater can also be installed.

In this video based post you’re going to learn how to design tiny houses in SketchUp with LaMar Alexander of Simple Solar Homesteading.
So hopefully if you’re here you’ve already downloaded SketchUp and you’re ready to follow along. If not, you can do so right now. Then come back here to watch the video so you can watch, learn, pause and rewind when you have to, and most importantly do.
It’s important when you watch instructional videos like this to take the time to pause the video for a few minutes so you can practice and play around with the tasks you just learned. Otherwise, you’ll completely forget!
So don’t expect to go through the entire video all at once. For best results, bookmark this page. Take your time with each lesson inside. Mark off where you left off and come back to it later in between practice.

Meet Anderson Page. He’s an environmental studies graduate at Northeastern University.
He’s also the designer and builder of the tiny house you’re about to see in this post.
Page designed and built this tiny home for his undergrad thesis project because it falls in line with his passion for better housing.

The Humblebee Porch tiny house plans are great because they’re livable.
With a total of 226-square-feet of living space, it should be enough for many simple folks out there.
My question is, does it have enough space for you? I’d love to learn about that in the comments later, but first see what you think of it below..
Tiny House Plans with a Side Entrance and Porch
Tiny homes with side entrances are starting to become some of my favorites. And when you add the large covered porch it’s even better.
I just don’t know how’d you get this bad boy on wheels. This might be something you’d want to set up on a foundation, right? Let me take you on a complete tour of this little home below:

I created this tiny house design for simple living.
It’s really just a design that I did for fun and practice.

The BrightBunk tiny house design is something I created mostly for fun and practice, but it could potentially be modified to fit your needs. It’s great if you wanted a cabin for the grandkids, something to take to a campground, to park in the backyard or housing for retreats and workshops.
Tiny House Design with Bunk Beds!
It’s a basic design that can be built on a foundation or on a dual axle utility trailer. You can even use it on campuses for dorms or to temporarily house workers on job sites.

Front Gate and Porch
I included a porch and gate in the design so you get the front porch feel, but it’s completely optional. Another better way to do it is to make it a flip down porch as one of you pointed out last week.

I’ve been having so much fun creating my own tiny house designs lately.
Last week I showed you my current apartment where I work/live. Before that, I created and shared the WorkHaus. Today I wanted to share a design idea I had for couples who might want to live tiny.
