When Ashley lost her job, renting her 1,300-square-foot home no longer made sense. She knew she wanted to own something but didn’t know where she wanted to put down roots. “What if I had a house that could move?” she asked herself. And that’s how she ended up with a $34.5K tiny house on wheels!
When she purchased it, her budget buy was rather empty and uninteresting—so much so that instead of feeling overjoyed when she first walked in, she felt a bit scared. This Japanese-inspired tiny house on wheels was custom-built for a Baluchon client who needs a home to travel with him for work around the United Kingdom. He loves Japanese architecture and the Bonzai Tiny House reflects that with a curved roof, red and black accents, and a screen door.
The home is just under 15 feet long to make it lightweight and easy to tow for travel. Even with that short height, the home has no loft, but rather a pull-out bed mat that lies on top of the living room floor at night. The kitchen is elevated to allow for lots of drawer storage underneath, and the wet bathroom is open to the rest of the home to keep the space from feeling claustrophobic.

Lilia set out to build this amazing tiny house with Jakob, her partner who suddenly passed away of cancer after they finished construction. The home was intended to give them more freedom, and even though he’s not with her anymore in body, she is living in that freedom in their home together.
Having a tiny house has allowed Lilia to quit her job and do yoga and sell towel ponchos. The home has a lovely couch that Jakob did all the upholstery for, and they used IKEA-style cabinets to outfit the large kitchen for their love of cooking.

While lofts help increase square footage, it’s tricky to get up and down ladders or stairs at night.
