Deyana was teaching virtually before it became “a thing” in 2020, so there was nothing holding her back from life on the road! She chose a school bus over a van for the affordability and was able to get her entire bus home complete for about $30,000.

It took 11 months for her to complete the renovation which includes a two-part kitchen, a 24×24 shower stall, a couch-to-bed, and a fixed bed with a dog nook underneath. She has a security system installed to help her feel safer on the road alone.

Holly and Dustin were tired of the typical rent trap and wanted to do something different. They took the first leap of flying to Florida to buy their bus and from there got to work creating a home. With little experience, it took them redoing almost everything 3 times to get the bus to where it is today.

But all that experience is paying off! They now pay their bills by converting buses for other people, and they are on the hunt for the right acreage where they can build a workshop to renovate buses and start a homestead. Enjoy the tour of their rig below!

Allison & Nick purchased their bus somewhat impulsively, but they diligently converted it into the gorgeous nature-inspired skoolie it is today over the course of two years! During that time they were largely working full-time, saving money for their adventure.

They’ve been on the road for 6 months, enjoying all their hard work. They chose tons of natural materials like hardwood floors, quartz countertops, porcelain tiles, and a pine ceiling. But they also included the comforts of home with their bathtub and a sweet gaming set-up. Enjoy!

This couple enjoyed working on yachts for a while until they were inspired to buy a short school bus to convert into their DIY motorhome. They fixed it up and used it on weekends at first, but they grew tired of the “go-go-go” lifestyle and eventually quit their jobs so they could hit the road, enjoying a more relaxed pace of life.

Their short school bus conversion has a beautiful bathroom, plenty of seating for guests (which also doubles as their bed), and a special higher purpose: they use it to foster dogs on the road.

Cruz and Mariah first went tiny back when Cruz was commuting long distances for his construction work. Living in an RV allowed him to have more time at “home” with Mariah since he could park close to the construction sites. But it still didn’t allow them to travel much.

That’s when they decided to sell the RV, buy a bus, and convert it into an awesome tiny home. Mariah figured out how to take her side hustle of painting portraits and make it into her full-time job! Now that they have remote work, the couple can go anywhere and see everything.

Ben and Tate are the proud owners of this amazing school bus conversion which they call “Ola.” The couple actually purchased the bus in high school and worked on converting it so they would have a home of their own when they got married in July of 2021. Now they are expecting a little boy and plan to raise him “tiny” as well!

Their DIY conversion was done on a budget. They bought the bus for $5k and put between $15k and $20k into the beautification process! Right now they have a spot parked on a ranch, but they travel when they want to and have an awesome home base wherever they take it.

Travis and Michelle first hit the road in their original converted school bus back in 2016 when they were going to visit their daughter. They met other skoolie folks and attended other tiny house festivals and started to feel the tug to jump all-in instead of just doing the occasional trip.

When lockdown hit, it was the final push to get them on the road. They were able to work remotely, their kids had moved out, and they were renting a home they no longer really “needed.” Eventually, they built out their current bus, the Big Blue Hauler, and jumped in full-time! Oh, and during all of this, they founded Skoolie Swarm which now welcomes hundreds of skoolies each year.

This is a fully-converted off-grid school bus that’s a great blend between professional and DIY! The solar, plumbing and deck were all professionally installed, while the rest was wonderfully built out by the original owner.

There’s a secret hide-out/second bedroom under the main bed that looks super cozy! The bathroom has a Nature’s Head composting toilet, and in the kitchen, there are beautiful epoxied wood countertops. The rig is for sale for $35k if you’re ready to start your bus life journey!

Bryant is no stranger to living tiny! He had spent almost a year living in a van (and not a converted van, just a van he slept in) before deciding he wanted something homier and purchased a bus. He later met Arissa, traveled and worked with her, and then they got to building out this gorgeous skoolie!

Unlike many skoolie conversions, they chose to use residential windows in their build. They also wanted a TV without needing to look at it all the time, so they have it pop up out of their mantle! In the bathroom, you’ll find beautiful tile work set with flexible mortar, and the kitchen features live-edge countertops. Tell us your favorite part in the comment.
