Prefab homes have had a negative reputation in the past for being mass-produced and poorly made but  Hewing Haus is one of several amazing companies that are challenging this stereotype by building prefab homes with quality materials and attention to detail.

They have a series of small home designs ranging in size from 200 ftto 600 ft2 and we had the chance to tour the smallest model at their warehouse in Chilliwack, British Columbia.

These tiny homes are not built on trailers.  Instead, they can be transported on a regular transport truck and craned into place onto a variety of foundations, including helical piles.  They can be used as cabins, bunkies, retreats, rentals, accessory dwelling units, and laneway houses to name just a few options, and they can be set up almost anywhere (be sure to check out the video below to see a bunkie being installed on top of a cliff with a helicopter!).

This is Jupe! A tent-based tiny house concept with same-day setup.

I suppose one can say it’s almost like a modernized Mongolian yurt, except it’s not round at all, but it is relatively easy to setup and install on the same day, much like a yurt.

This is a modern prefab cabin on wheels that’s listed for sale over at the Tiny House Marketplace by Justin S. out of Arroyo Grande, California. It is built by a company called Efficient Building Systems LLC.

It’s an incredible looking tiny house but it comes with a hefty price tag: $175,000. It was just built in 2019 and features dual sinks in the bathroom, a luxurious interior and exterior, it’s 12-ft. wide by 32-ft. long, and would be easy to be approved as an Accessory Dwelling Unit or Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit (some properties are allowed to have more than one ADU). What do you think?

Tiny House Expedition, who just took over the helm at Tiny House Build and Tiny House Plans, takes us to Austin, Texas, where they’re giving us a video tour of the Kasita tiny house.

It’s a modular tiny home designed by Jeff Wilson, a teacher who converted and lived in a dumpster turned micro home one year, and was later inspired to develop this high-tech and portable housing solution called Kasita.
