1830s Cottage Tour: Living in a 200-Year-Old Home with Original Character

Haley is a photographer and content creator who, along with her partner, rents this charming 200-year-old cottage. Built in the 1830s, the home has been updated over the years while retaining much of its original character.

The cottage features rustic sage green cabinets in the kitchen, characteristically low ceilings on the landing, and pastoral views from the windows. Upstairs, there’s a bedroom plus a second room they use as a TV lounge. The compact layout makes it a comfortable small home for two.

Lessons from This Home

  • Historic Homes Can Work for Modern Life: This 200-year-old cottage accommodates contemporary needs like a TV room while maintaining its period character
  • Low Ceilings Add Charm, Not Obstacles: What might seem like a limitation in older homes becomes part of the cozy appeal that draws people to historic properties
  • Renting Historic Properties Preserves Them: By renting rather than leaving historic cottages vacant, tenants help maintain these buildings and keep their stories alive
  • Two Rooms Upstairs Creates Flexibility: Having both a bedroom and a separate sitting room upstairs allows small-home dwellers to have distinct spaces for sleep and relaxation
  • Color Choices Honor History: Sage green cabinets reflect period-appropriate color palettes while still feeling fresh and updated

Please include some photos of the outside. I looked at the photos and watched the video and don’t know how it is configured. Most of what I got to see was photos of their furniture and decorations.
I can’t decide if I like it or not. I think a 200 year old house is interesting but I didn’t get to see that.

They can only include what the source provides, but that isn’t the only video on her channel and you can find the link to her Instagram page on her youtube home page…
