While plenty of people living in skoolies go the DIY route, if pulling out the power tools isn’t in your wheelhouse, there are companies that do bus conversions! Paved to Pines is one such company.
Based in Canada, Paved to Pines was started by two college buddies who began by simply converting a bus for themselves. But now they have the experience to create builds for others, and do so for clients across Canada and the US. One of their most recent builds is the gorgeous watermelon-colored “Big Betty.”
Betty is a 37′ school bus ready for a family. It has two bunks, a separate Master bedroom, and a front lounge area that can turn into additional guest sleeping. This was designed for a client, but you can commission a similar build (or something custom!). Check out their FAQ page here.

Chad and Paul were living in New York working typical corporate jobs but wanted more out of life. So they began transitioning their work to be remote-friendly, and then decided they ought to do something with their newfound freedom.
While one of them really wanted to live on a sailboat, they settled on van life and purchased the amazing Winnebago Travato RV, which they have dubbed the “Vandelorian.” It has everything including a bathroom, but its most amazing feature is the lithium battery system that keeps them so well-powered off-grid they never even think about conserving it!

Joy and Austin decided to downsize from their 850 sq. ft. apartment into a Sprinter 5th wheel so they could start saving money to eventually purchase a home of their own. This “tiny for awhile” mindset has really gained popularity lately, and it can be such a wise way to get started.
Paint goes a long way, and in the 7 months they’ve lived tiny they have really made their once-outdated camper into a stylish home sweet home. The RV has a master bedroom for Joy and Austin, and then a separate room for their baby.

Shane and Allison were no strangers to tiny living when they decided to renovate a bus — they had spent four years as traveling musicians in an RV, but when they started seeing skoolies on Instagram, they had to have one!
“Honestly, it’s way cooler [than an RV]” Shane says. They outfitted the interior without any experience and on a budget, complete with pallet cabinet doors and a tub from the farm supply store. Their toddler (& now newborn) and nanny travel with them all over the country.

I don’t know what it is about round homes, but I adore them! This particular octagonal structure was inspired by a triad of home designs: the Mongolian yurt, Navajo hogons and Native American hidatsa lodges. The result is a perfect vacation spot in Colorado dubbed the “Solargon.”
The interior has a studio-style setup, complete with a leather sofa, comfortable queen bed, and functional kitchenette. Then there’s a separate bathroom complete with a shower stall with “barnwood” tile.

Mary and her husband reached out to show off their amazing 371 square foot garage-turned-tiny-house. The couple wanted a vacation spot on the pricey Coronado Island in California, so they bought the “big home” and then spent $25,000 renovating the adjacent garage into their holiday home.
The result is a sleek and modern one-floor apartment just minutes away from bars, beaches and beauty! While Mary did this so as a vacation property, it’s not a bad idea for your full-time residence depending on permitting rules. You could easily cover a mortgage payment by renting out the main house, and enjoy a tiny “rent-free” life in the garage! What do you think?

While we’ve shown you a few versions of the Timbercraft Denali XL, this one is unique because it has absolutely no lofts! Set on a 10-foot-wide trailer, it’s a whopping 42 feet long and is technically classified as a park model.
It’s a great set up for a retired couple. The back door walks into a spacious living area that seamlessly blends into the kitchen that includes a dishwasher (a must for me!). In the bathroom you’ll find a flush toilet, washer and dryer unit, and a stand-up shower stall.
