If you’re looking to build a tiny house for the most affordable price, here’s how you may be able to do it for only $3,000 in material costs. Our friend LaMar Alexander is looking to help anyone out there looking to get into a self-built quality tiny house for the least amount of money with his new tiny house plans.

So if you can do the labor yourself, you may be able to build yourself a tiny house very affordably. Need it to be built on a trailer for mobility or zoning? That will run you up approximately $6,000 in materials so you can build it on a Big Tex Trailer. Just remember, these prices are approximate and can change and vary depending on various factors like location, trailer choice, material choices, as well as any uncontrollable events and material price hikes. While plenty of people do attempt a tiny home build without official plans, directions can make the entire process go more smoothly, especially if you don’t have any design/construction background. That’s why I love the plans from Tiny Easy, like this “Uno” model that has a single floor layout.

Without a loft it’s much more senior-friendly. The bedroom holds a queen-sized bed, closed off with a sliding barn door. It has an L-shaped kitchen with space for a full oven, fridge and even a washer/dryer unit. There’s a defined living room, and a bathroom with a simple shower and toilet set-up.

You can purchase the plans online for $199 and get started on your tiny today!

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, many people found themselves suddenly jobless, trying to figure out what to do in the midst of so much chaos. For Tay & McKay — a couple who had moved to Hawaii as destination wedding photographers/videographers — all of their work dried up in a couple of minutes. But instead of getting discouraged, they teamed up with some friends/family members and built a gorgeous luxury tiny house!

Now the couple is headed back to the mainland to start building tiny homes out of Dallas, Texas! But if you want the plans for this build, they’re selling them on their website here.

We got to interview the couple, which you can read below, and they told us all about their design philosophy and process. Hope you enjoy the stunning photo tour (done by them, of course)…

Monique and Aswan (@living.laarge) wanted to build something together, so they spent months meticulously planning out their own tiny house, called the Tyny, which they now sell plans for online (get them here).

This eco-friendly abode features tons of hidden storage and a multi-purpose couch/bed/dinette they designed themselves. The coolest feature, though, might be the bathtub hidden under their deck! Monique and Aswan both have “normal” jobs in the city which they work at part-time, but tiny living has cut down their living costs drastically.

We got to do an email Q&A with the couple which talks about how much they spent and their build process, which you can read after the photo tour of their stunning tiny house.

These are the plans for your very own 8×12 Walden Cabin created by Lamar over at Simple Solar Homesteading. The base cabin can sleep up to 4 people in just 96 square feet, and it includes a bathroom with a toilet and shower!

Lamar’s plans also include an optional 9×8 addition to the cabin, which can be added on later, and instructions on how to build a deck and patio on your dwelling.

Even buying all new materials, you can build the 8×12 portion of the cabin — insulated, drywall, foundation, and roofing — for just $2,000 according to Lamar’s calculations.

Note: Lamar does not sell pre-built cabins, but you can buy his plans for it here for just $5!
