This is a 800 sq. ft. off grid beach cottage located on Keewaydin Island, Florida that is only accessible by boat. The home was originally built in 1948 as a fishing cottage. When Sherry Irvin (Realtor in Naples, Florida), her husband at the time, and their two daughters (ages three and six at the time), moved into the small cottage, they updated the interior but kept the original wood floors. They also incorporated features in the home that we normally see in houseboats.

When you go inside you’ll find a kitchen, open living room with views of the ocean, two bedrooms, and one bathroom. To save space they removed all the doors in the home except in the bathroom where there was already a privacy curtain. They also added a large deck that is nearly the size of the home itself. They lived here for six years. And the children were best friends since they were the only kids on the island. They also got to go to school by boat rather than school bus. How cool is that? Sherry says she would live here again in a heart beat! So how would you like to live in a small home like this on an island? Let us know why or why not in the comments below.

This is a 540 sq. ft. ocean view tube house on the western coast of Oregon in a small town called Neskowin. It’s currently on the market for $189,000. When you go inside you’ll find a spacious open floor plan. There’s a fireplace in the living area which looks out onto the beautiful outdoor balcony. A great spot to relax and enjoy a morning cup of coffee, isn’t it?

In the kitchen you’ll notice a skylight that lets in plenty of sunlight. The bedroom is open to the living area but if you want you can close it off with curtain or you could even add a permanent wall. But right now it functions a lot like a studio. Do you think you can live simply in this little cabin? Either way please enjoy and re-share below. Thank you!

Nestled within nature in Northern Arizona is this sustainable tiny home made of Earth owned and built by Cody Lundin.

You may recognize him from various television interviews and magazines. As a professional survivalist for over 25 years, Cody built his own self-reliant earth house which, by the way, is completely off the grid.

One of the main goals, when Cody was designing and building his tiny home was to ensure the interior temperature remains habitable at all times, no matter how hot or cold it may be outside. So the stone floors absorb the natural sunlight throughout the day to help keep the home warm at night. This is especially important during the winter. Cody also utilizes solar power to run his computer, microwave, washing machine, and any other electronics. Please enjoy, learn more and re-share below. Thank you!

This is an eco friendly prefab timber frame house kit by Noble Homes. They sell efficient kit homes with customizable floor plans.

All the materials are easy to handle, including the lightweight SIP‘s for the walls and roof. Everything you need for the exterior of the home is contained in the kit which makes it easier to build.

Although this house is not as tiny as it looks it still has a relatively small footprint but it does boast about 1280 sq. ft. of space on single level floor plan with three bedrooms so it’s great for a family! I really like the open kitchen and living area with its large glass windows. The exposed timber beams in the living area plus the windows give the home a warm cozy feel to it too, don’t you think? Either way please enjoy and re-share below. Thank you!

This 330 Sq. Ft. Tiny Cottage Overlooking Blue Hill Bay is a guest post by Robin Charltonshare yours!

When not traveling I spend a part of each year helping to caretake our family property in Maine. It has been in our family for three generations and is a very special place.

I believe this Little Cottage would be a perfect example of a tiny house vacation. It’s one of only three cottages on our family’s property overlooking Blue Hill Bay and it’s just minutes from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor in Maine.

This cozy cottage is great for a couple or single person seeking a quiet getaway while enjoying all the benefits the area has to offer. It offers 330 square feet of space inside and has one bedroom with a queen-sized bed. It also offers a fully equipped kitchen, private bath with walk-in shower, cable TV, wi-fi, an outdoor gas grill, picnic table, all linens, and more.

Our oceanfront ledges are the perfect place to relax and enjoy a picnic, a glass of wine, and/or your morning coffee. We’ve welcomed many people celebrating honeymoons and anniversaries and we’ve even hosted a few oceanside weddings.

Please enjoy, learn more and re-share below. Thank you!

This 450 Not-So-Square Ft. Yurt is a guest post by Jen McGeehan – share yours!

Our little love yurt is nestled within an Ohia forest, one of the few remaining (they were almost completely wiped out when the sugar cane industry arrived!) on our island in Hawaii.

The God of our universe is still in the business of financial healing and restoration! Travel to paradise as one financially devastated couple take a flight-of-faith, leaving the economically-challenged mountains of Southern California for the unknown off-grid lifestyle of a rented yurt on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The country-wide real estate and banking collapse of 2008 sent millions of American families into financial ruin. Many hung on for dear life, believing the market would correct itself within a year or two. By 2010, no correction was in sight.

In my book, “My Year In A Yurt“, I tell the true story of how my hubby, Pat, and I filled a 40-foot Matson container, shipped our two vehicles, along with our twenty-nine year old equine and three-year old goat, and flew the friendly skies in search of a simpler way of life.

Our enormous debt of over $600,000 came as invisible baggage, as did the painful memory of handing our realtor the keys to our 3,000 square-foot home after three and a half years on the non-existent real estate market. As foreclosure and bankruptcy – additional unwanted travel companions – reared our heads, I sent yet another urgent prayer to heaven asking for God’s divine intervention.

Please enjoy, learn more and re-share below. Thank you!

This 600 Sq. Ft. Cottage on Farm in Mexico is a guest post by Michael Mckenna – share yours!

Tiny houses in Mexico…why Mexico? Why not build in a climate that is sunny most of the year and a pleasant 80 degrees with little humidity.

So pleasant that neither heat nor air conditioning is required. The utility costs are minimal here. The property taxes are $100 per year. Sound good?

At Simple Choice Farm you can either rent a 600 sq. ft. cottage for $550 US per month including utilities.  Or buy a 600 sq. ft. cottage for $80,000 US that including the land.

Located in the mountains of central Mexico, the property has a pool, hot tub, and huge circular gardens with vegetables for the picking. Presently I have 2 homes for sale and I’m building 4 more rental units.

Please enjoy, learn more, and re-share below. Thank you!

This 400 sq. ft. Park Model Tiny House Journey is a guest post by Kat Valade – share yours!

I’ve been following tiny houses for a few years now. I just knew this was the best choice for me and I started saving money for it. I had planned on moving in with my brother last year so I could save the rest of what I needed.

A combination of unexpected circumstances came my way and before I knew it, I had my tiny house being built! I chose a company in Alabama to build my 400 sq.ft. house. It arrived in Colorado the 2nd of January 2015. I had not seen it except in pictures as they were building it. Oh my!

The house plan had a full bath, kitchen (including dishwasher), two bedroom with downstairs and a loft with stairs instead of a ladder. I’m 57 and have a dog so climbing a ladder up to sleep every night wasn’t an option.

Please enjoy, learn more and re-share below. Thank you!
