This 452 sq. ft. tiny victorian cottage was built in 1998 by the homeowners in Hagerhill, KY.

They built it for their grand daughter after finding out about tiny houses on Oprah back in the day.

It has central A/C, TV and phone wiring, a full kitchen, full bathroom, and one bedroom.

Over the years the tiny home has had over 2,500 visitors and it’s been featured on several magazines and television shows.

The owner is also the author of a book called Mayor of Nut Valley – Managing Life’s Nonsense by Rosa Lee Pack. The book features the little cottage on the cover.

As of right now the cottage is for sale but it also includes a really large home on the property. The lot is 1.8 acres and the main house is two stories with 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.

Susan Moray enlisted the help of Jack Barnes Architects to help her convert her garage into a 550 sq. ft. ADU cottage that she now uses as a vacation rental in Portland, Oregon’s Ladd neighborhood. ADU, by the way, stands for Accessory Dwelling Unit in case you’re not familiar.

Together with Design Build Portland contractors they were able to get the job done for a total cost of $90,000, according to Accessory Dwellings. Now you can stay in the cottage if you’re ever in Portland.

Jack Barnes (architect) designed an amazing little cottage based on the already existing garage structure that’s so energy efficient it received a Platinum Award from Earth Advantage. And they had absolutely no trouble getting the plans approved by the city thanks to his expertise.

I’m happy to be showing you this 400 sq. ft. small cottage designed by Smallworks Studios in Vancouver.

They’re a company focused on building small homes personalized their clients specific needs and I’m personally quite a fan of their work.

A Laneway House is a home built in an alley in the backyard on the current lot of an existing house. In other words, a guest house. They can also be referred to as accessory dwelling units.

Right now I’d like to show you this 610 sq. ft. cottage by New Avenue Homes and tell you the story behind it.

When the homeowner’s daughter and her family were in need of a change she invited them to move in to her larger main house since they’re a growing family with two children.

This way, grandma can see her grandkids every day without having to drive anywhere, and she can live simply in a 610 sq. ft. cottage with less maintenance.

I see it as a total win-win because her daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren get to be nearby. And they can share the costs associated with the entire property since they’re on a shared lot. It simplifies all of their lives.

As for the 610 sq. ft. cottage, it has a two bedroom design (one room is used as an office), kitchen, living area, and bathroom. To me this story is important because we don’t always have to go the extreme of a ‘tiny’ house to enjoy the benefits of a simple life. Please enjoy, talk about it in the comments, and re-share below.

Right now I’m showing you a small cottage that the homeowners are using as a vacation rental for extra income in the Mississippi district of Portland, Oregon.

As you walk towards the entrance from outside you’ll walk right beside the main house which perfectly matches and compliments this little cottage.

The outside entry way features beautiful brick pavers with artistic tiles that add some color and fun. And they give you a preview of the tile inside.

Once inside you’ll realize that this little cottage has a lot of space saving features that you might want to consider when designing and building your own small or tiny home. Please enjoy and re-share below!

Right now I wanted to share with you this 690 sq. ft. park model cottage for sale in Shelton, Washington.

It has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and has a waterfront/canal view. It’s located in a quiet 55+ community near Potlatch State Park.

There’s a community beach, boat ramp and clubhouse on site. It’s a 2007 Kropf manufactured park model home and has an extended loft.

There is a monthly rent for the lot if you wanted to keep the home on-site where it is which runs about $500/month. So unfortunately, you don’t get to own the lot.

I still thought it would be fun to share how living in a 690 sq. ft. park model home might look and feel like. Hope you enjoy.

When I think of tiny houses I also think of small houses like this beautiful and open summer house I’m showing you here.

I’ll always show you both tiny and small homes so that you can find what’s truly best for you long-term (whether it’s tiny, small, or somewhere in between).

This summer house is a great example of what you can do with a slightly larger amount of space. It’s a backyard retreat used for vacation rentals by the homeowners.
