Not everyone that’s a tiny house enthusiast can always move into a tiny home.

But that hasn’t stopped some people from building them and using them for something else.

In this case, this woman is using a tiny home that used to be part of a house truck as a revamped vacation rental in her backyard.

So when it gets rented out she gets to earn some money on the side for minimal work.

Tiny Homes as Backyard Vacation Rentals?

I urge you to enjoy the rest of the tour of this backyard double lofted micro cottage below (and in the comments let us know what else you might use a tiny shelter for other than living in it yourself):

I thought I’d share this excellent example of people living simply in a tiny cabin in Alaska.

It’s a simple log cabin with a covered front deck. When you walk inside you’ve got your living area and kitchen. And upstairs is your sleeping loft with skylights which you’ll get to see down below.

When it comes to tiny housing we face several challenges.

Do we park them in backyards and live in them there?

Do we develop our own tiny house communities and villages?

Do we rent currently available RV or trailer lots to live in?

Do we buy our own land where tiny living is allowed?

I believe the answers lie in doing a little bit of each.

The question is: how would you want to do it?

I don’t have the exact details of this modern Japanese home for you but it seems relatively small.

I’d guess it’s about 800 sq. ft. or so but I’m not sure. What I really thought you’d find interesting is:

  • The “Smart” Toilet (it even cleans itself)
  • Space Saving Cabinets (genius cabinet design)
  • The Overall Japanese Style (you’ll see)

When she was 12 years old she started building her own debt-free tiny house.

This all started around January 2013. It’s just about a year and 4 months later now and she’s finished the project.

Sicily now owns her own debt-free 128 sq. ft. tiny home on wheels that she built herself.

I think you will enjoy this custom built tiny house on wheels by Tiny Diamond Homes.

It’s built on an 18 foot double axle trailer so you can move it around just like a travel trailer.

The tiny home is equipped with a full kitchen, bathroom and sleeping loft for two.

And it’s nicely decorated too. Let’s take a look inside.

According to the Huffington Post Kayla Feenstra is a landscaper who’s found a way to live better without a mortgage.

She designed and built the home of her dreams. It just happens to be a mortgage-free tiny home of just 130 square feet.

It’s been nicknamed, “Jack in a Box.” And she built it for just $15,000 and two months of labor. It was built right onto a trailer.

So if she ever wants to move she can simply tow and go. Especially since she doesn’t own her own land.

A while back I told you about a tiny house community dedicated to homeless people in Olympia, WA called Quixote Village.

As a part of LaMar Alexander’s Off Grid Tiny House Design Contest for 2014 a contestant submitted a design inspired by the affordable tiny homes at Quixote Village.

The village consists of 30 tiny cottages. And it all started out as a tent camp for the homeless.

Today there’s a vegetable garden and community building with showers, laundry facilities, communal kitchen, dining space, and more.
