With all the articles out there about downsizing and living small, I’m sure the title of this article is very misleading. I’m not writing yet another article warning about the difficulties of living in a small space and how it’s overrated, and not all it’s cracked up to be; I have lived in a 10 ft. X 10 ft. space, 600 sq. ft. with another person, and the sleeper cab of an 18 wheeler (I am a proponent of living small). One needs to have a small space in order to live in a small space. After getting my tiny house I received several requests asking for information on how I successfully got into tiny house owning. All the information out there is either (at the time of this writing) 6 years old or very vague and general. A brief overview of tiny houses will be necessary as the rest of this article will discuss financing your little dream and where to put it. “Disclaimer this information is one person’s experience in the state of Oregon, your state and your experience may be different”

This is an oversized tiny house with a wraparound porch built right into the unit! It’s called Athens 520. Technically this is a park model home and could easily be considered a mini-mansion on wheels, right?
It’s pretty massive! But could be the perfect solution for some who may be looking to downsize from something much bigger, right? I think so. And there’s nothing wrong with that. This park model could also even be the perfect upgrade in size from a tiny house, travel trailer, an RV, expensive condo-living, and so on. So what do you think? This is the story of a very unique tiny house in Australia with a pop-up roof loft. The family of three designed and built it themselves and one of the unique things about it is that the loft roof is able to expand upward once the home is parked.
So whenever they want to move the house, they can collapse the roof down so that the house meets the applicable road laws. Pretty smart, right? They even did it in a way that it truly looks permanent once it’s set up! Pretty amazing, don’t you think?

This is the Acorn Tiny House by Backcountry Tiny Homes. It’s an actual TINY tiny house on wheels. Funny enough, I think we have to start saying that now with all of the huge THOWs we’re seeing built these days. Nothing wrong with those, though! But here’s a tiny that you can more easily get around with since it’s only about 16-feet long.
Beautiful, isn’t it? What I love most about it is the compact and beautiful design. So what do you think, do you like the oversized windows? What would change about it?

This is the story of how tiny homes made a big impact at the recent Innovative Housing Showcase event in Washington, D.C. which showcased several affordable housing options. And also, how our government may be opening up to legalizing tiny.
Alexis and Christian, of Tiny House Expedition, even got the attention of Ben Carson, head of housing and development for the United States. Mr. Carson mentioned how we are being hampered by regulatory barriers. Again, this is coming from the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)! THAT’S encouraging. Maybe we will see significant forward progress for tiny homes in the very near future. So, wanna see what the event was like? Let’s go…
