Jordan and Scotty had a 2,200 square foot home on 10 acres of land, but were killing themselves trying to afford that lifestyle. So they bought an RV and made it home, and in the first year saved about $13,000!
The couple have five kids (3 full time, 2 they share custody of) in their amazing RV renovation, parked on Jordan’s mother’s land. They’ve lived tiny for 2 years now, and plan to continue doing so until they can afford to build a home.
I love their story because it shows that sometimes radical tiny living can be a temporary solution to living life with less financial stress. Even if you don’t plan on having 7 people in under 400 square feet forever, it might help you reach other goals! We got to interview Jordan, so be sure to read that Q&A at the end of the post. Ricci and Kyle want their kids to grow up realizing that possessions and material things won’t last forever, so they chose to go tiny in a new 5th wheel RV!
Kyle is in the Army, so having a mobile home allows them to take it wherever the military may call them (state-side, of course). They live in an RV park close to Kyle’s post, that has lots of family-friend amenities.
Inside the RV the kids share an awesome bunk room, while Kyle and Ricci have a Master bedroom on the other side of the home. We got to do a Q&A with Ricci about their 6 months living tiny, which you can read after the awesome photo tour of their home. Follow them on Instagram here.

This unique screened-in tiny cottage tucked in a woodland grove among a flower farm is a couple steps up from sleeping open-air, and the best way to do so while still sleeping in a comfortable bed!
The cottage has no walls, just screens surrounding the queen-sized bed with luxury linens. A clear plastic roof allows you to see the treetops, while keeping the elements from soaking you. You can cook over the firepit (although make sure to keep food in your car so as not to attract wildlife), and take a shower with the solar shower provided in the nearby outhouse. There’s also a composting toilet there.
This is a one-of-a-kind experience you can’t get many other places! Book it here on Airbnb.

As a goat-owner, any vacation spot with these cuties nearby speaks to me! This adorable one-room cabin in North Carolina is no exception. “Wanda’s World Cabin,” as it’s called, has two sturdy bunks, a bathroom with shower, and a little kitchenette.
It’s nearby to hiking trails, whitewater rafting locations, fishing holes and even horseback riding! Other than the host’s home and the goat shed, there are no other cabins within sight.
The interior has a rustic glam feeling that’s sure to welcome you. No wifi available, so you can really unplug. Rent the spot on HipCamp here.

The Summit Cabin sits on a half-acre at 3,300 feet elevation in the North Carolina mountains, offering stunning valley views and a true off-grid experience. This two-story cabin demonstrates how off-grid living can still include the comforts you need—hot water, cooking facilities, and a proper bathroom—while disconnecting from the grid.
Part of the Waldhaus Resort near Pisgah National Forest, the cabin requires a 15-minute hike from the parking area, adding to its secluded, back-to-nature appeal. The lower level houses the living space and kitchen, while an exterior staircase leads to a private upstairs bedroom with a wrap-around deck.
