Shane and Allison were no strangers to tiny living when they decided to renovate a bus — they had spent four years as traveling musicians in an RV, but when they started seeing skoolies on Instagram, they had to have one!
“Honestly, it’s way cooler [than an RV]” Shane says. They outfitted the interior without any experience and on a budget, complete with pallet cabinet doors and a tub from the farm supply store. Their toddler (& now newborn) and nanny travel with them all over the country.

This is the Whippoorwill Treehouse. It’s a tiny cabin on stilts in Hot Springs, Arkansas that’s available to book on via Susan on Airbnb.
It’s one of six treehouses on the property, each with its own personality. I don’t know what it is about round homes, but I adore them! This particular octagonal structure was inspired by a triad of home designs: the Mongolian yurt, Navajo hogons and Native American hidatsa lodges. The result is a perfect vacation spot in Colorado dubbed the “Solargon.”
The interior has a studio-style setup, complete with a leather sofa, comfortable queen bed, and functional kitchenette. Then there’s a separate bathroom complete with a shower stall with “barnwood” tile.

Mary and her husband reached out to show off their amazing 371 square foot garage-turned-tiny-house. The couple wanted a vacation spot on the pricey Coronado Island in California, so they bought the “big home” and then spent $25,000 renovating the adjacent garage into their holiday home.
The result is a sleek and modern one-floor apartment just minutes away from bars, beaches and beauty! While Mary did this so as a vacation property, it’s not a bad idea for your full-time residence depending on permitting rules. You could easily cover a mortgage payment by renting out the main house, and enjoy a tiny “rent-free” life in the garage! What do you think?
