Sophia and Forest began their tiny house build at a workshop where other participants and two teachers helped them construct the frame. While the framing went quickly, it took the couple another year to complete the interior on their own—a common timeline for first-time builders tackling finish work.

The gooseneck tiny house cost approximately $45,000 to build, with help from family to fund the project. When they neared completion and worried about finding parking, they asked on Facebook and found a lovely wooded spot where they trade some labor and pay $400/month for their home base.

Kate and Benoît returned to New Zealand after years of international travel and built themselves a tiny house on wheels for under $38,000—coming in under their original budget. Their secret: clever use of reclaimed and thrifted materials, spending money where it mattered most and saving wherever they could.

The home is currently parked on her parents’ land while they search for their own spot to create a small homestead. Their build demonstrates how creative material sourcing can dramatically reduce tiny house costs without sacrificing quality.

Budget-Friendly THOW Built with Reclaimed Materials

The exterior shows the timber-framed construction they chose after consulting with Kate’s brother, who works in construction. This approach allowed for a more interesting roofline than their original container house concept.

While there are plenty of tiny house villages popping up around the country, few of them allow you to outright purchase your own lot. In most cases, you bring your own tiny house and pay a yearly lease. Peacewind in Florida, however, has a number of lots where you can own a little lot and the tiny house that sits on it. You’ll pay a small HOA fee while enjoying legal tiny house living.

Braveheart Properties Of Brevard in Cocoa, Florida is a 501( c) ( 3) nonprofit that developed Peacewind, a tiny home and small cottage community offering long-term solutions for tiny homes as a permanent residence. Jinkie Echols is the founder and President. Peacewind is a legally zoned and code-compliant tiny home and small cottage community.

This is a cabin on six acres of beautiful woods in the mountains of Berkeley Springs, WV where you can vacation. The shingled cabin has so much character, including two beautiful French doors, exposed beams, and a lovely creamy-white cast iron wood stove.

While it’s typically a negative to have to walk to a bathhouse, you might not mind in this case because the bathhouse is so beautiful, with a huge tiled shower stall and a rainfall shower head. There’s also a sauna, a porch with an electric fire pit, and a full kitchen inside so you can make meals if you don’t want to go out.
