Brandon loves adventure sports and was a carpenter by trade. Van life gave him the chance to explore the rest of the country before he officially settles down. While he misses the space his apartment had—especially for all his sporting equipment—he believes the trade-off of spending so much time outdoors and exploring new places is worth it.

Even with his experience building, Brandon still thinks he spent more time on YouTube than he did building the van! It was a learning curve, but he’s better for it. And he found a clever way to include a shower. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Brandon and Sarah started their on-the-water life about four years ago, by completely renovating an old 225-square-foot houseboat they have moored in North Carolina. While they loved that first home, it was time for an upgrade! The maximum size they were allowed was a 360 square foot living space and 400 square feet of deck — so that’s what they did.

Now they have a bedroom with space to walk around the bed, a loft bedroom for guests, more counterspace, and a breathtaking two-basin copper sink! There’s even a 100-gallon stock tank bathtub in the bathroom where they can relax after a long day of work. Could you live on the water like this?

The spacious bedroom even has a standard closet and plenty of room to walk on two sides of the queen bed.

The main area consists of the living room — with space for a sectional — and the kitchen, which features full-sized appliances including a dishwasher. The 3/4 bathroom has lots of built-in linen storage, and a shower stall. What do you like most about this model?

Heidi and Mike are an incredible couple who got the wild idea to build a tiny house from a semi-truck trailer! Since they had no prior building experience, the idea of simply cutting out windows and doors rather than framing a whole structure was attractive to them. That said, when you see the interior, you’ll be floored at what they learned to produce this caliber of tiny home.

They actually started off living in tents while building the semi. Still, the windy season made it miserable, so they purchased another unfinished trailer to keep them out of the elements. Eventually, it will become a guest area! For now, they live in the leading semi with a convertible bedroom, tons of under-floor storage, and a beautiful spa-like bathroom. Let us know what you love most in the comments!

We hope you’re enjoying the selection of new small home plans we’ve been digging up for you! While many people can handle life in less than 400 square feet, others need a little more elbow room. This 624 sq. ft. uses that extra 224 square feet to add a practical mudroom and a full bathroom, which is so nice for hiding things that often clutter up tiny spaces.

Another perk of this design is the covered front porch, which helps extend your living area outdoors. The traditional home style will fit in just about any neighborhood across the country, and because it’s over the “tiny” limit, you may have an easier time securing permits. What do you like about this design?

Alice & Ambrose wanted to try out an off-grid lifestyle in South Africa, and they have truly made it happen! Even without electricity (or solar!) they’ve been thriving with their rainwater catchment system, wood-fired hot water tank, large garden, and storage shed for overflow pantry goods and clothing.

All in all, they’ve spent about $16,000 on the site, caravan, and conversion — which is quite impressive! Ambrose is a professional stand-up comedian, so this is a lively and exciting tour. Enjoy!
