Remember Matt & Erin, the awesome couple that owns a historic 1800s cabin? Well, they also recently completed this stunning modern cottage, which is available on Airbnb now! It sits on seven acres of woodland on Fleets Island in Virginia.
The cottage has two bedrooms and glorious lofted ceilings in the great room. There’s a full L-shaped kitchen and a special lounge room in the loft. You can also use the deck for meals or morning coffee. What’s your favorite part?

Cozy loft above main living space (spiral stair access) offers large sectional sofa and TV with streaming service access. Living area has ample comfortable seating, gas fireplace, and vaulted ceiling with fan. Kitchen is well-equipped with dining area for 4. Large deck has outdoor dining table and great privacy. Downstairs in the garage you’ll find a ping pong table and second bathroom. Down a path through the woods is a small treehouse overlooking the dock/water/kayaks. This is a very private location, but still close to many attractions in the area.

Beautiful place! But is that first pic really the same house? The interior looks so big, and the last exterior pic looks different enough, surely that first pic is from some other house?
Not the same house. First pic is of a house on piers. Last one is not. Also, private “dock,” not “deck.” Still, beautiful place.
There’s two buildings, the interior shown is the main house and the first photo is of the second that the AirBNB describes as a tree house by the dock…
Am I the only one, who have an aversion for winding staircases? I find them difficult to climb or descent.
Though I do like the house. Looks really good. I would probably not have black tiles on the floor in the bathroom. They tend to look really dirty very quickly, when water is spilled on them. But that is what I would change – an ordinary staircase out into the room, with shelves underneath, and lighter tiles in the bathroom.
Winding/Spiral staircase is harder to use but it saves a lot of space. Since, regular stairs would cut off the kitchen from the rest of the space and go all the way towards the entrance. So depends if you’re okay with that trade off… Though, you could consider attic stairs that lower when you need to use it but raises out of the way the rest of the time.
No you are not. I too have adverse reactions to them. Scared s**tless about crashing down them. I am unsteady on my feet these days. Damn this getting old lark.
