Interesting, indeed. I’ll be up all night trying to figure out why it was built…
Well, it’s safer than a tent, and has it’s own little private outdoor space with no sand, just a nice clean floor. Having your own bathroom when camping is a definite safety feature. I have camped out for most of my life, and getting up to hike to the bathroom in the night is scary.
The selling price has dropped from $15.7K to $8.5K.
OK where is the mini frig and microwave? Didn’t see it in pictures. Also if it is raining out and you have to go to the bathroom you get all wet. Who needs a courtyard? That space could have been used for a little kitchen.
It is built on a light-duty utility trailer, with a single axle. So, the current weight of the structure, as-is, is probably near the maximum load for the trailer.
It doesn’t say, but there could be clear corrugated roofing over the patio.
I’m all for unique designs but they need to make at least some sense. Some may appreciate having a tiny outdoor space like this but for me, I’d rather have it be interior space. If I want to be outside, I’ll just step out a door. Give me more interior space, for sure!
A lot of designs, like breezeways, are based on practicality…
Usually, because of things like what’s simply easier to build, in a given time limit, level of skills, desired ease of towing, etc. but people also have preferences like those who prefer the bathroom be separate from the living space, especially in a very small space that a gap may be the only solution for…
While there’s also the fact it’s DIY and with single axle light duty trailer, which limits how much weight you can put on it and leaving a gap is a weight reduction option… Not to mention separation also means not having to worry about dealing with excess moisture in the living space, which in a tiny space would easily require things like dehumidifiers and other additions to handle it.
So it definitely makes sense, it’s just reasons that may not apply to you and what you would have built, using different resources, different preferences, different trailer to build on, different budget, etc.
Mind, design options can be limited by available materials, weight restrictions, limits of building skills, intended functionality within the given size space, and so forth…
I like the concept. In architecture these are called dog trot houses, popular in the Smokey Mountains of old, and old Florida. Allows for natural air conditioning. That being said, I would like to have a living area for the home to be considered completely inclusive as a full time home. Nice idea and cute!
