Houseboats vs. Floating Homes

Mobile houseboats differ from stationary floating homes in their ability to travel. While floating homes remain moored in one location, motorized houseboats can cruise to different marinas, anchor in various locations, and offer changing scenery. This mobility appeals to those who want waterfront living without being tied to one spot.

Lessons from Houseboat Living

  • Water Living Offers Unique Benefits: Waterfront views and lifestyle come with houseboat ownership
  • Mobility Adds Flexibility: Motorized vessels can relocate as circumstances change
  • Alternative Housing Exists on Water: Houseboats provide residential options beyond land-based homes
  • Marina Living Creates Community: Liveaboard marinas often develop tight-knit communities
  • Compact Living Skills Transfer: Small space strategies from tiny houses apply to houseboats

Beautiful, beautiful structures, but I believe I could simplify my life without spending $300,000, more or less, or more for one of these homes.

Yeah that’s really pricey, thanks Regina

Really beautiful, but the price is way out of my reach. Not sure I want “urban” but the space looks well put to use, and it would certainly be nice to be able to cruise around in one of these. I like the new one in developement too. Can’t wait to see what it will look like when done.

I saw this house on Extreme House Hunters last week. It’s pretty cool, but the guy looking had his high maintainence girlfriend with him and she “pooh-poohed it” because it didn’t have enought room for her clothes. I thought it was pretty cool, it’s on Lake Union in Seattle. I love that place!
