All-Black Kangaroo THOW: 28-Foot Tiny House with Murphy Bed

With its striking all-black exterior and clever no-loft layout, this 28-foot Kangaroo THOW proves that tiny house design doesn’t have to follow a formula. Built on a custom heavy-duty triple-axle Kangaroo trailer, it replaces the traditional sleeping loft with a queen-sized Murphy bed that folds over the couch, keeping the ceilings high and every inch of the home accessible.

At 8.5 by 28 feet, this build packs in a full kitchen with oak cabinetry, a bathroom with a Nature’s Head composting toilet, and even a built-in rainwater collection system. French doors welcome you in, and thoughtful built-in storage makes the most of every wall.

All-Black Exterior on a Triple-Axle Kangaroo Trailer

The exterior makes an immediate impression with its all-black siding and metal roof, giving the home a sleek, modern look that stands out from the typical wood-clad tiny house. The dark finish also helps the home absorb heat in cooler months.

The custom heavy-duty triple-axle Kangaroo trailer is engineered specifically for tiny houses, providing a stable and road-ready foundation. The triple-axle setup distributes the weight evenly, which is important for a build this size.

No-Loft Living with a Murphy Bed

The heart of this design is the queen-sized Murphy bed that folds down over the couch in the living area. At night, pull the bed down and you have a full sleeping space. During the day, fold it up and the room transforms back into a comfortable living room with a sofa. It’s a design that gives you the best of both worlds without climbing a ladder.

Built-in bookcases and storage shelves frame both sides of the Murphy bed, turning what could be dead wall space into functional storage. It’s one of those details that makes a tiny house feel thoughtfully designed rather than simply small.

Kitchen and French Doors

French doors with bamboo blinds serve as the main entry, flooding the interior with natural light and connecting the inside to the outdoors. The doors open directly into the kitchen and living area, making the space feel larger than its footprint suggests.

The kitchen features oak cabinetry, a mini oven, and a refrigerator. A warm glow comes through the back window, adding character to the cooking area. The combination of oak tones and natural light gives the kitchen a cozy, residential feel.

Bathroom

The bathroom includes a Nature’s Head composting toilet and a shower stall with a sink. It’s a compact but complete setup that covers the essentials for full-time living.

Rainwater Collection

One of the standout features of this build is the built-in rainwater catchment system, which fits over the tongue of the Kangaroo trailer. It’s a clever use of otherwise wasted space and adds a level of self-sufficiency that’s ideal for off-grid or semi-off-grid living.

I have always been a fan of storing the space consuming bed away when not in use. This one is a great example for a Murphy bed placing it across without narrowing the space. Despite this having no loft is advantage when towing.
Beside that I love the rainwater harvesting and composting toilet.
    The price is right, too.
The only reason why it’s not for me is the black siding which is definitely not suitable for the FL climate because it is catching a lot of heat.
