Meet Megan: She’s a CPA who works full-time with small businesses, and she lives in a Mercedes Sprinter Van named “Avo” (short for “Avocado”). She found the van on Craigslist and outfitted it with help from Heartwood Custom Vans (@heartwoodcustomvans on Instagram). The van is black on the outside and green on the inside and, it is actually her second van.

Her van is packed full of adventure gear that lets her live the life she’s dreamed of, including running her own business: She organizes Open Roads Festivals for other van-lifers and van-life dreamers across the country so people can meet and learn about this extraordinary life. Who said van-life was only for youngsters? Virginia (@veevanvoom on Instagram) is an incredible woman from Canada who was inspired by tiny house television shows to retire early in her own van conversion. That’s right, van life retirement!
She worked for 38 years as a massage therapist and with the help of some friends and experts built out her very own custom van home. Virginia even carved out some space in her little van for her massage table! She already traveled through her home country of Canada and is currently traveling through the states, building community and exploring beautiful places as she goes. This is the story of Madelyn and Caleb and their van that they imported from Japan. They spent two months renovating it, and hit the road! It’s a 1993 Toyota van that they completely refurbished inside-out. It has a happy and vintage look to it and I think they did a really nice job of personalizing it for themselves.
So far, they’ve been on the road for over 5 months and love it! They’re traveling with their cat and are enjoying a once in a lifetime experience they will likely cherish forever. Meet James, who grew up in a small town of about 900 people. He always dreamed of getting to hang out with people and just getting out and exploring. So at age 19, he did just that with his first van conversion. James took his experience of working at his hometown tea shop, and decided he would go around sharing that with the people he would meet along his travel which is exactly what he’s doing with his Air Nomad Cafe.
Since then, he has upgraded to the 2018 Promaster cargo van conversion that you can see right here (below). The inside has been completely retrofitted into a tiny cabin on wheels. And the outside has been repainted to give a retro vibe with the teal and white. It’s pretty cool! What do you think?

This is Lindsey and Danny. Danny is a traveling nurse and usually gets placements for 3-6 months at a time. They were becoming increasingly frustrated with the fact that they were having to pay higher rent prices because they weren’t signing a year lease and were living out of boxes from place to place.
When they discovered van life, they knew it was the right fit. They built it out themselves and it is absolutely beautiful. They actually even found something called a “tool library” where they could borrow tools to complete the build so they didn’t have to purchase everything they needed. They are so much happier and are finally able to save money. Lindsey is particularly happy that she never has to look at another box again.
