In this post you’ll get to see and learn about the Zion Tiny Cabin which was built from one of our readers, Josh Alfaro.
He’s been inspired by other tiny house projects and recently started a tiny cabin of his own. And lucky for us, we get to see it right now. 🙂
The cabin is 200 sq. ft. with a 13.5′ high ceiling and loft space. In total the project cost less than $1,000 in building materials thanks to the use of getting to use recycled materials.
There’s still some finish work and interior work left to complete which Josh plans on working on during weekends. So stay tuned on his blog.

Several years ago John Wells bought 40 acres in this West Texas area called Brewster County for $8,000 after selling his mortgaged home in upstate New York. Then he built his own debt-free tiny home within 9 days for only $1600.
As time has gone on he has created his own solar shower, composting toilet, bicycle-powered washing machine, greenhouse, and more. The property now even has an Airstream trailer guest house, office space and additional housing made out of shipping containers, a solar oven, chicken coop, and a water collection system. His tiny house also features a swamp cooler (also known as an evaporative cooler) which he made himself to cool his cabin for next to nothing. John has the ability to store up to 21,000 gallons of water on his property.
“The main reason I came to this area is because there are no building restrictions whatsoever and that’s really hard to find in this country,” says Wells. “I came out here to get away from debt.” John went from a 2800 sq. ft. house with loads of debt to a 128 sq. ft. tiny house with zero debt and lots of self-sufficiency.

This DIY Tiny House on Wheels For Sale is a Guest Post by Ethan Ramirez
Fifteen months ago my girlfriend Kelsey and I started work on our second tiny house. At first everyone assumed we were building another house because the first was too small. They would ask, “are you building the second one bigger?” Our answer was, “no we are actually going smaller.”
As you can probably imagine people wanted to know why, and the reason is we felt that we could make an even smaller house even more efficient. We found that our first house was laid out in a manner that did not take full advantage of its footprint and we wanted to prove to ourselves that we could not only do it better but in a smaller footprint.
So we began working and after three months of long days we finally completed our even smaller tiny house. Unit 2 was it’s title and we were excited to begin our lives inside it’s cozy interior.
Our time spent in Unit 2 was very happy and we will always remember that time of our life fondly but due to a new opportunity we have been presented with we have come to the decision to find Unit 2 a new owner. Someone who will love it and enjoy it as much as we have.

This 4×4 School Bus Tiny House Conversion is a guest post by Brock Butterfield of Bus Life Adventure
Being a subscriber to Tiny House Newsletter it is an honor to be able to share my project of converting a 4×4 short school bus into a Tiny Home on the move.
The idea first came to me last winter as I was sleeping in my truck. Cold, cramped and no good way to dry out my snowboarding gear, I started thinking about how I could have a little more wiggle room without the cost of an expensive RV.
A short school bus came to mind and I learned that a handful out there are 4×4. After many nights of research I found the bus I was looking for. A 2001 GMC Savana chassis with Corbeil bus top and a 6.4 Turbo Diesel motor. The bus was located in Albany, NY and we flew out to drive it back to UT taking only old highways and side roads while documenting the whole thing.
My summer and fall has been consumed with removing all the bus seats, chopping the back four feet off and reattaching, welding a deck on the back for two snowmobiles and converting the inside to a cozy 76 sq. ft. living quarter.
The inside is complete with a bathroom, kitchen, dining area that converts to a bed system that will sleep four, clothes closet, nook and plenty of space to store everything one would need to live simple. Most of the walls are recycled pallet wood that I sanded and applied a clear coat to.

This is Minimaliste Tiny Homes which is a new tiny house construction company out of the Quebec City area of Canada.
And this is one of their very first tiny house designs which they built. It’s modern, spacious, and it seems to make great use of the available space. It’s a 24′ tiny house model called The Sequoia. So far it’s simply a 3D sketch of plans so I’m sure that you, like me, will be even more excited to see when they build their first tiny home so we can see what it might be like to live in it in person (or at least of course in photos and video). This 300 sq. ft. barn to tiny cabin conversion in Indiana used to just be a simple storage barn.
Now it’s a gorgeous little cabin with a full kitchen, bathroom, living area, and two lofts.
It’s artistic, functional, and lots of reclaimed materials were used to build it.

Güte is a tiny house builder in Maxwell, Ontario, Canada specializing in slightly modernized shepherd huts to meet the needs of today’s tiny house enthusiasts.
And, of course, you don’t have to live tiny full-time to enjoy one. Some people just want some extra space in their backyard.
Others might want to create a tiny guest house they can occasionally rent out or let their friends and family stay in while visiting.
But many of us are looking for full time tiny homes so we can live simply, inexpensively, and deliberately create a more enjoyable way of living. That’s why I love small spaces.
