This 12′ x 24′ cabin for sale is a guest post by Doug Schroeder
I am a home builder and have been for 20 yrs. I became interested in tiny buildings a few years back. When I needed an office last year I decided to build a small portable building that could be used as my office and then turned into a tiny house, studio, or guest cabin when I was done with it.
I built it on skids with treated floor joists and standard 2×4 wall construction. It is insulated and has a bathroom and closet framed in the rear under the loft. The bathroom is unfinished at this time as I didn’t need the bathroom.
The overall size is 12×24. The bathroom is 5×8 and the closet is 3×8. The floors, walls and ceilings are 1×8 pine and the front doors are fir, the interior door is knotty alder, the windows are Jeld-Wen. As a builder I cut no corners on this building and paid attention to the details.
I think it turned out great and I have enjoyed using it but I have decided to move back to Alabama this summer and will need to sell to help with the move. It is located in southern Indiana now but can be delivered.

This is the story of a man who built his own tiny house for less than $500.
His name is Scott and he calls it his transforming tiny home because it has a custom and very simple fold-out bed. And here’s what’s really interesting. This is the biggest house he’s had in almost 3 years because before this he lived in a dome-tent, and before that, out of a backpack. So for him, the 83 sq. ft. cabin is roomy. Scott and his friends designed and built the simple tiny shelter for less than $500. It’s located on a friend’s 20-acre plot of land. Enjoy the full tour below. Can you imagine building a house for only $500 in materials? Talk about life-changing…

This is the story of a 714-square-foot tiny cabin that was built as a guest house in Ross, California and designed by Dotter & Solfjeld Architects. It started out as an old barn on the lot that was beyond repair so they decided that they would recycle the wood and use it to build this!
From the outside, you’ll notice the beautiful rustic finish and the corrugated metal roof. I could just hear the relaxing sound of the rain from the inside where you find a cozy living area, kitchen, main floor bedroom, bathroom, and an additional sleeping or storage loft. What do you think? Could you see yourself living in a space like this?

The E.D.G.E. cabin, designed by Revelations Architects/Builders is 518 sq. ft. but suitable for a small family to live in.
E.D.G.E. stands for Experimental Dwelling for a Greener Environment. It’s a prefab small cabin with kitchen, bathroom, multi-functional living/sleeping area, and two sleeping lofts.
It’s also designed to collect rain-water. The cabin has large insulated sliding doors outside that you can use for solar heat during the day and close up at night to help keep the structure warm.

When Hotel Elqui Domos in Elqui, Chile wanted to renovate their seven astronomical domes and add several astronomical cabins for their star gazing guests they hired Rodrigo Duque Motta Architects for the job.
The cabins are definitely NOT tiny, and hardly small, at approximately 1765 sq. ft. each. But I still thought the design was inspiring and could be used for inspiration on a smaller scale. And the existing dome renovations are in fact small (and both are just awesome), as you’ll get to see below.

I first showed you this cabin back in 2014 when I first discovered it. Now it’s 2020 and the design seems very relevant. It’s a Kanga cabin and it’s perfectly designed for a live/work lifestyle. The sort of lifestyle that many of us are now living in because of quarantine and covid-19.
I’m excited to share this 504 sq. ft. modern cabin by Kanga Room Systems with you. I know. It’s not exactly tiny (maybe to some of you) but it’s most certainly small. And I’m not sure about you, but to me, something like this would be an absolutely perfect long-term solution. The home consists of two units with a 10′ covered breezeway/porch/outdoor living area connecting the two units.
A 14’x20′ (280 sq. ft.) unit gives you your living area and kitchen while another 14’x16′ unit (224 sq. ft.) features your bedroom, bathroom, and utility closet. Pretty cool, right? And if you don’t like ladders staircases it’s perfect because there are no sleeping lofts. It’s a one-level design.
If you live and work from home and share your home with loved ones, this is absolutely perfect because you have a separate structure for peace and quiet while your significant other can use the other area as they wish without distracting you during periods of focus and concentration. Please enjoy, let me know how you like it in the comments and re-share below!
