In 2010 and 2011 an Earthquake hit Christchurch, New Zealand causing a great amount of damage and a whole lot of salvaged material. With what many saw as destruction and waste, Stephan Cook saw as a great opportunity to get high quality material for a low cost. With the material, he built what is known today as the “Biggish Tiny Home.”
Coming in at about 215 square feet, this tiny home is a sight to see! Complete with industrial windows and doors, Stephen’s home includes an open floor plan which gives the illusion that the house is bigger than it actually is.
It also includes a sitting area, full kitchen, eat-in bar (which has a lovely outside view when the windows are open) and a loft upstairs which holds a queen sized bed and closet space.
This tiny home also has a refrigerator, hot water boiler, oven and air heater. Situated in the lush woods of Christchurch, this tiny home has it all. Great location and a fabulous story behind it. Please enjoy and re-share below. Thanks!

See how this married couple, Peter and Shannon, built their own tiny house for less than $20,000 and how they are living simply in it.
This is one of the most amazing tiny homes I’ve ever seen. I think you’ll be really impressed once you see what it’s like inside.
Inside this little cottage on wheels, you’ll find everything you want from home… A 28″ flat screen TV, washer/dryer, kitchen with large sink, staircase to the loft, and lots of windows and natural light throughout. All for under $20k.
Great work Peter, Shannon, Peter’s Dad, (and their friends, family, and building team). This is yet another amazing example of what you can do with your own custom tiny house project with enough dedication and good old fashion hard work.

When Lina Menard was 14 years old, she was already interested in cohousing. So it’s no wonder that today she’s living in her own tiny house in a self-created tiny house community she and her friends put together in Portland. It’s called Simply Home Community.
Granted, this all definitely didn’t happen over night. This is something Lina has been dreaming of and actively working towards for a long time. It’s no wonder she figured it out, right? And right now I’m so excited and even proud for what she and her friends are doing not only because it isn’t an easy thing to do but also because they are truly paving the way for others, like you and me, to do the same.
So this is the story of how seven friends are now successfully living tiny in their own little community. This is a great model, example, and inspiration for future tiny living and cohousing communities that are home grown.

This 77 sq. ft. modern micro compact home is designed by Horden Cherry Lee Architects and is available through the Micro Compact Home brand. Interestingly, the design inspiration comes from the Smart Car and Japanese Tea Houses.
This tiny home is designed for one person (although I’m sure you can sleep two). But they’re also designed to become stackable to develop communities if one wanted to. Pretty cool, right? This means the micro cabins can be used as dorms for students, for example.
The units are about 8.7′ by 8.7′ by 8.7′ which translates to about 77 square feet. Now that’s tiny, right? Please enjoy the photo tour, video, and links to more information below. I’m also curious about your thoughts on this micro cube house so if you want let’s talk about it in the comments below. Thank you.

When Chris and Malissa Tack built their 140-square foot tiny home on wheels three years ago, blogs and resources on the subject were few and far between. At the time, they only knew of one couple building a tiny house – most were single individuals. Some people aren’t sure they could share a small space with another person, but Chris and Malissa have made it work, and even enjoyed the way it’s shaped their relationship.
They both need to spend significant time at home – Malissa works from home full-time, and Chris does freelance photography and videography in his spare time. They both know their way around little house design, having created two sets of plans for tiny homes and a wide variety of 3-D renderings of small space layouts. They found they needed to make a few adjustments to their behavior and to their original space design to make it work as a live/work/work space for two people, but now they don’t feel constrained by their home’s size.
