After a divorce, Jen decided to sell her 2,000 square-foot “American Dream” home and go tiny — but it didn’t start off smoothly. The builder she found on Craigslist was flaky, and she had a huge shell but couldn’t get it liveable.

Thankfully, she got in touch with Mitchcraft Tiny Homes who was willing to take on the project — and according to Jen — made it better than any drawing or picture she showed them. She seems like such a lovely person and you’re sure to enjoy Jenna’s interview with her below.

While going totally DIY is great, sometimes a little structure and guidance can go a long way to creating the tiny house of your dreams. Right now, Summit Tiny Homes has a Christmas sale going on for their framing plans, and this Thistle 16′ model looks awesome.

For C$375 (usually C$500), you’ll get a cut list, materials list and 3D guides and instructions to get the entire framing of your build completed. If you want, they have a “mechanical” plans add-on, and a “finishing” plans add-on as well for sale. But the first part of the plans would get you a structurally-sound base for you to make your very own!

Meet the “Lilla Rustica,” a tiny treehouse in Vermont with gorgeous mountain views. The best part? You don’t have to climb a ton of steps to get inside — there’s a nice sloped bridge that takes you from property and into the treehouse.

Inside there’s both a cozy downstairs bed nook, and a loft bed for the more adventurous. You can enjoy a cozy propane fireplace on cooler nights, and drink coffee on the back porch with breathtaking views. The whole thing was built by the now-more-famous “Tree House Guys” who ended up featured later on DIY Network.
