Brandy retired just before 2020, and the pandemic set her on a new path to tiny living. She now lives in a 399-square-foot park model in a tiny house community in Texas, where she turned the downstairs bedroom into a dedicated crafting room and sleeps in the loft. She grows food in the community gardens, cooks for her neighbors, and is refreshingly honest about the challenges of downsizing.

Pre-pandemic Claire had a dream of living in a Volkswagen van and traveling the country, being able to see her then-long-distance boyfriend Jared more often. He convinced her that a Sprinter would be a more reliable choice, and it just so happened that Jared started working remotely in March 2020.
He was able to convince his employer to let him continue remote work, and Claire and Jared were able to chase the van dream together! They chose copper “penny”-themed accents to make a truly beautiful home.

When their kids moved out, Mike and Jenny decided to go tiny! Or, Jenny did and Mike said, “sure” haha. Despite choosing to downsize significantly, the couple brought in elements and inspiration from their big home in designing their little one.
It took about 7 months for them to complete the build, and every detail is carefully crafted. They even made space for their California King bed! Amazing.

Stevie sent us pictures of the awesome 8×17 vacation cottage he built from an old playhouse. What was simply a shell, he spent the last 3 years transforming into a fully-livable little home complete with a kitchen, nearby bathhouse (plumbed!), loft bed and comfy sitting area.
I actually see these for sale on Facebook Marketplace pretty frequently. Maybe we should buy one and work on making it into an awesome Airbnb cottage!

While our goal here, of course, is to focus on tiny *homes,* it’s really cool to see what else creative people can do with alternative spaces! Dr. Ari — a doctor of acupuncture — decided to make the niftiest pediatric acupuncture office ever out of a short bus. It allows her to bring her services to the kids who need them, and make them feel more comfortable.
Dr. Ari does camp in her short bus from time to time, so the waiting area couch actually folds out into a queen-sized bed. The interior is light and bright with pastel rainbow accents and a cute chain of happy llamas. I wish all doctors’ offices were this nice!

This Japanese architect purchased a tiny plot of land in Tokyo and created this amazing tiny home for him and his wife. It’s 18 square meters (around 200 square feet) large, and despite the tiny size, the architect says they aren’t living “minimally.” He made space for a large fridge for his wife, as well as for his 300 books and their 300 vinyl records!
The unique roofline is what really makes this tiny house stand out. There are two different skylights at alternating heights that allow beams of light to shine in throughout the day. The best part? This adorable couple seem absolutely in love!

While some tiny homes are small or light enough to transport on your own with the right vehicle, others like Park Models, or oversized homes, are best left to professional moving companies. Or maybe you just don’t want the risk of DIY-ing such an important thing — no shame hiring professionals. It’s your home after all!
We put together a list of some insured tiny house moving companies that transport homes across the U.S. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and there are probably regional towing services out there you could contact. That said, this will give you a good starting point while gathering quotes. Make sure you understand exactly what the towing company promises, and especially what they insure in case of an accident.
*DISCLAIMER* We have not personally had tiny homes towed with any of these companies and have not confirmed their license and insurance policies. Please do your own additional research before booking.

Eva graduated college and wanted to hit the road and travel. She has a full-time remote job and made this 2013 Ford Transit Connect into a gorgeous, very tiny, home on wheels. While most people hide their stuff in a “garage” under the bed, she created secret wall cubbie you’re going to love.
Despite how compact her van is, her choice of light and bright white-on-wood interior keeps it looking quite open. She even added a CD player so she could listen to her CD collection, which is adorable. Enjoy the tour!
