Back when Danny and Joy only had one child, they were hoping to make a home of their own but weren’t in a place to purchase a home in Florida where they were living at the time. So when a school bus came up for sale in their area, they decided, “Why not?”

Their skoolie has two big built-in couches that face each other, a galley kitchen, a 3/4 bathroom, and a back bedroom with a “kids’ nook” underneath the main bed. Check out the interview we did with the couple, along with a photo tour of their space, below!

Nick began his nomadic life after he got a remote job and sold his dog daycare. He already owned a truck, so he purchased a cheap 50-year-old truck camper, put it on his vehicle, and hit the road! After seven months of living with that set-up, he had a good idea of what he wanted in a more permanent rig—and that’s what led to the epic shuttle bus you’ll see below!

His skoolie feels like a cozy cabin inside, mainly due to the milled 4x4s he used to panel the interior. There’s a lovely variation in the wood tons, which adds tons of character. He has an outdoor shower, indoor toilet, chest fridge/freezer (for ice cream), and many unique accommodations for his blind dog, Narlie. Enjoy the tour below!

Emily and Josh were both working jobs that kept them apart, and then driving to see each other on the weekends. They’d save up PTO to travel for a few weeks during the “off-season” and wish they could do it full-time. When 2020 changed their career trajectories, they were finally able to consider living nomadically full-time!

It took about two years for them to complete their skoolie conversion, and they spent the second year living in it while finishing the interior. You can read more about what led them to go tiny and how they feel about nomadic life below!

The Wooly Mammoth is an incredible skoolie featuring two giant couches with the capacity to seat up to 10 people (with seatbelts)! Originally, the school bus was going to be a tour vehicle for the musical group that Isaac and Julie were a part of, but when the band broke up, they decided to keep the skoolie dream alive.

It took about 4 years to complete the conversion, but the end result is exactly what they wanted. There’s a large kitchen across from a two-part bathroom with a spacious shower, an elevator bed on a crank system in the back of the bus, and the couches become a giant bed perfect for lounging on while watching some TV. Enjoy the full tour below!

Alli was the first one in this relationship to want to live on the road, but her husband Allan — who was going through quite a bit of emotional and physical trauma with degenerative disc disease — eventually came around. Now they couldn’t imagine living any other way!

They found this bus for $15K — fully converted — on Facebook Marketplace about 2 years ago. While it was move-in ready, they’ve done a lot of remodeling to make it fit their taste, since Alli is an artist. The result is truly gorgeous! Enjoy the tour below.

Tal and Ori were living in Israel when they found out they were having twins. Realizing they wanted time to raise the girls and travel as a family, they sold all their belongings and came stateside to begin van life in December 2021.

Eventually, the van became too small for the four of them, so they upgraded to a self-converted skoolie. The skoolie has the original bus seats with 5-point harnesses for the girls, a separate playroom area, and a convertible couch for mom and dad. What do you think?

Anna and Jeff had enjoyed traveling and camping with their respective families growing up, and wanted to share that experience with their own kids. In October 2017 they took the plunge and purchased a bus and began the two-year-long conversion process. After being on the road for a couple of years (and expecting another child!), they decided to do an upgrade which included an incredible loft!

The loft acts as a bedroom for their two oldest kids and a game room. The other three children have bunks on the lower level and there’s a primary bedroom in the back of the rig for mom and dad. In order to feed everyone, they have a large kitchen with a giant farmhouse sink. What do you think of their set-up?

Ginnie and Austin met during their time in the Army and spent their last year in service building out a skoolie, so they could enjoy their newfound freedom and see the country.

Their pink (ish) rig is beautifully designed to offer maximum comfort for themselves and their pets. They prioritized tons of counter space, a big couch that becomes a second bed, and a cozy back bedroom with a queen-sized mattress. Enjoy their skoolie tour below!

Shirley and A.W. wanted to do something new during retirement, so they bought a bus and built out a skoolie! Their only regret? That they didn’t do it sooner!

They have a neat L-shaped couch in the back of the bus which becomes their queen-sized bed at night, and another couch that turns into a twin for any guests. They are taking long trips when they can and staying close to home for longer stints to visit their new grandbabies.
