Tyme and Andy are a young couple who have taken an excellent alternative path to “home” ownership. Instead of settling down in Upstate New York, where they’re from, they built a fantastic bus conversion and chased the sun in their school bus conversion.

Tyme loves interior design and was excited to design the bus—and the results are impressive! Especially since they only spent about $30,000 on converting it. You’ll love the large bathroom in the back of the home. Enjoy the tour below.

This 2005 Freightliner FS-65 2WD has been lovingly converted into a school bus tiny house! It has one of the largest shower stalls I’ve ever seen in a conversion, which takes up half of the bathroom that spans the entire width of the school bus.

Besides the impressive bathroom, the kitchen is also roomy, with large butcher block countertops on each side of the bus. It even has an oven, which many nomadic homes opt out of! The current owner is asking $40,000 or your best offer. The house is in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Price Family is an adorable family of three who travels the country with their DIY skoolie and their dog. Despite having no previous building experience, Megan and Landon did a fantastic job creating a functional and happy tiny house.

Before leaving Texas to travel, the couple had a wedding photography/videography business, which they still run during wedding season. Enjoy our interview with this awesome family, and check out their cool conversion below.

Like so many others, Elizabeth joined vanlife because of the shutdowns of 2020. When she stumbled across vanlife on YouTube, she was hooked!

Through a series of events, she ended up purchasing a short bus and converting it into her own home on wheels. She has a remote job and is able to travel while living in her adorable bus named Wanda. The rig is perfect for her and her pets, and she loves life on the road. We had the privilege of interviewing her for this post, and you can read her story in her own words below.

Andy is a single dad who built this amazing skoolie so he could travel with his two kids when they aren’t in school. The bus includes a great couch for hanging out, a kitchen where he can cook homemade meals, some awesome bunks for his kids, and a larger bed for himself.

In 2011, he was trapped in an office building during an earthquake and thought he was going to die from its collapse. When he made it out largely unscathed, his life perspective was completely altered, and he ended up coming across nomadic life and realizing he wasn’t meant to work in an office all day. Enjoy his inspirational story below!

Jono and Taryn are an awesome couple with three girls, ages 8, 6, and 4, who are traveling full-time to see the United States! While they originally toyed with the idea of an RV, they preferred the idea of converting a skoolie that they could customize for their family’s needs.

This is a standard-height bus, with no roof raise, but there are strategic skylights throughout to allow Jono to stand upright in the kitchen, where he’s the chef. The dining room table is one of the coolest features of this home, but you’ll love all the clever and well-designed features.

Morgan and Matt travel with their baby daughter Aupi and dog Nandi in a self-converted skoolie. The couple were no strangers to tiny living before their daughter came around — they’d lived in a sailboat and an overlander in Australia for years.

They wanted to move to the U.S. for Aupi’s birth to be closer to family, but also didn’t want to get into the rental market. A skoolie sounded like the perfect solution. They call their home “The Green Bean.”

Mati and Luli moved to New Zealand about 7 years ago and lived for a time with a woman in her treehouse. During that time, they discovered they needed far less than they originally thought and got the idea to build a tiny house! They built the entire thing from the trailer-up, and did it using reclaimed materials for around $18,000 USD.

We had the privilege of interviewing the couple, and you can read more of their story below and take a tour of their home first, and then their bus conversion. Enjoy!

The Reiff Family love their life on the road in their roof-raise skoolie! Joel, Carrie, and their three preteen boys left Pennsylvania to travel west after completing their $70K conversion. They’re now enjoying extensive National Parks tours and getting used to homeschooling on the road.

They raised the roof in the middle of their skoolie to allow maximum headroom in the living room/kitchen. The home has tons of counter space and a bar area that gives the boys a spot to do bookwork or each lunch. Each boy has a private bunk space with storage, and there’s a main bedroom in the back for mom and dad. Oodles of solar power and batteries allow them to boondock for 10 days or longer at a time.
