On a smallholding (family farm) near the England/Wales border sits The Dugout: A little cottage, literally dug from the hillside, filled with quirky cut stone floors and charming woodwork (including pulley light switches).

The handmade Chestnut Master bed sits in the round portion of the cottage. The home also has comfortable seating near a wood stove, a dining table, and small kitchen, as well as it’s signature feature: a library bath — literally a bathtub in a bookcase.

You are welcome to watch the farm owners going about their daily tasks, buy fresh meat and produce at the onsite shop, or for an additional fee, even participate in a woodworking workshop. Alternatively, you can sit on the patio and take in the astonishing views of the valley below. Book your stay here.

This is a 100 sq. ft. off-grid micro cabin on a foundation in Portugal.

Mat & Danielle from Exploring Alternatives recently had the chance to spend a few nights in this extremely tiny off-grid micro pod in Portugal.

They filmed a full video tour (see below) and you might be surprised at how comfortable the space is considering it’s only 100 square feet.

Hello!

My husband and I (in our late 50’s and 60’s)  are building a Hobbit House in the Hill Country of Texas.

You can follow our progress at:   www.texashobbithouse.com     We also have a FB group with the same name.

While this almost-600sf HH may not qualify for a “tiny house”, it will still require careful consideration in terms of space-saving techniques!  The unique construction may prove challenging when it comes to working with curved spaces where square things generally go:  cabinetry, shelving, etc.

We look forward to suggestions, questions, and even constructive criticism, if absolutely necessary and given in a helpful spirit!
