If you believe people should have practical, legal options to live simply and affordably, this matters. We are currently just seven weeks away from a critical code hearing that could change the future of tiny living in the United States. Macy Miller of MiniMotives, along with a dedicated team of advocates, is working tirelessly to ensure relocatable tiny homes have a fair shot in the International Residential Code (IRC).
Macy Miller of MiniMotives is leading the charge for Act 2 of the Tiny House Appendix.
This isn’t just about a single home; it’s about creating a safe and legal pathway for movable tiny houses to be recognized as permanent, habitable dwellings across the country. But as the hearing approaches, the need for professional representation and organization becomes even more urgent. To show up fully prepared and ensure our voices are heard by the ICC, the movement needs our support.
The Fight for Relocatable Tiny Home Codes
Clear legal pathways for relocatable tiny homes don’t happen by accident. While we’ve made great strides with Appendix Q for tiny houses on foundations, those on wheels still exist in a legal gray area. This “Act 2” of the advocacy effort focuses on closing that gap, providing building officials with the specific code language needed to permit tiny houses on wheels as permanent residences.
If this proposal (RB42-25) fails at the upcoming hearing, the next opportunity to change the national model code won’t occur until 2030. We cannot afford to wait another four years for safe, legal housing options.
Why Your Support Matters Now
Fundraising is the largest remaining gap in this effort. Travel expenses, technical engineering fees, and professional representation at ICC hearings are necessary to compete with industry interests and ensure the needs of individual tiny home owners and DIY builders are represented. The goal is to keep this effort supported and ensure that the individual advocates do not have to bear these significant costs alone.
If tiny homes matter to you—financially, environmentally, or socially—please consider contributing to the movement. Every bit helps the team show up prepared to win this 2/3 supermajority vote.

Voices of the Movement
The tiny house community is standing together for this change. Advocates like Jewel Pearson and Jodi Brown have been sharing powerful testimony about the importance of legal housing options. You can watch Jewel’s testimony and their recent interviews to learn more about the human impact of these code changes.
As Macy Miller says, “The goal is to keep this effort supported and ensure individual co-proponents do not bear hard costs alone.” No matter where you are, your amplification and support make a difference.
