There’s both a front door and French doors in the back which could open up onto a deck, extending your living space outside. Two lofts offer plenty of sleeping and storage options, while the kitchen has an impressive amount of counter space! The build features the very-popular storage stairs we all need, and a bathroom complete with a subway tile shower stall and closet. The best part? For me, that baby wood stove! Olivia and her husband, Rob, have been living in a narrowboat in England for 7 years now! That’s an impressive amount of time for anyone to live in one place — let alone a tiny spot.
Originally the boat was only meant to offer them shelter temporarily while they saved up for a “normal” house, but once they got into tiny living, they never looked back. Not only can they move their home whenever they’d like, the simplicity of a minimalist life really suits them.
One great thing about their home: No loft! Olivia (@oliviakatewainwright) says the only real pain is emptying their toilet. Read our Q&A with Olivia after the photo tour of her floating home!

Ellie was working day and night in DC, wishing and waiting for the day she could travel again. She grew up overseas and couldn’t help but feel that wanderlust.
After five years of saving and a couple months building out her 2005 Sprinter, she and her cat, Moose, hit the road. Moose is the coolest cat because he goes kayaking and hiking with Ellie! While she occasionally misses the conveniences of city life, she wouldn’t trade them for the freedom she has!

As a former mom of two-under-two, I’m incredibly impressed that Ben and Mia managed to buy and convert this school bus into their full-time home while juggling a baby and barely-toddler! They actually first built a tiny house while living in Sweden (where Mia is from), before moving stateside and choosing a skoolie conversion.
Ben says the school bus was more fun to work on, overall, and they’ve made it an awesome home. Inside you’ll find bunks for both kiddos, a shower with tub, safe hookups for the kids’ car seats, and an impressively pared-down toy collection for the children. All in all, they spent $11,000 on the bus, and another $11,000 on the conversion.

This enchanting treehouse sits suspended between two cypress trees overlooking an emerald river. As the name “Chapelle” would suggest, this vacation spot is inspired by a church or chapel, with twin cathedral-style windows and oodles of (electric) candles as decor.
The inside feels ethereal and romantic, with burgundy accents and ornate finishes. The main room has high ceilings, seating overlooking the river, and a lovely table. There’s a large bathroom complete with both a walk-in shower and a clawfoot tub, as well as a bedroom fit for a royal couple.

I love grain silo homes! What a neat way to repurpose an old structure; and it’s round which makes it even niftier!
Off the front of the silo, you’ll find a lovely porch overlooking the secluded woods/countryside. Inside you’ll walk into the open-concept living/dining/kitchen area, with all the conveniences of home (minus an oven). There’s a bathroom with a luxurious tiled shower, as well as a queen-sized bed with gorgeous views accessible via a fun floating staircase.
This silo was self-built by the owners and took about 5 months to complete. You can rent it on Airbnb here.

Earthships are such a neat buildlings! As the owner of this one writes, this is “a totally off grid house that catches its own rain water, generates its own electricity and stays at a steady 72 degrees all year round without the use of any fuel or electricity what-so-ever.” Can’t complain about that!
Inside the home you’ll find a studio set up, with a queen bed, television and chairs on one side, and a fully-functional kitchen on the other side, complete with a large oven and refrigerator. The bathroom has all the luxuries of home, including a flush toilet and a shower/tub.
