Island Gypsy Houseboat: Off-Grid Floating Home! 5

Remember the Silver Pearl houseboat on Airbnb that Alex showed off last week? Genevieve and her husband own that boat, but also live off-grid in their very own floating home called the “Island Gypsy.”

Before they invested in a vacation property, they moved into the Island Gypsy — she felt like were “cheating” being hooked up to shore power, so they figured out how to create an off-grid home and have been living that way for a few years!

She sent us a beautiful description of their life on the water, which you can read after the photo tour of their houseboat. Enjoy!

Former Military Couple’s Renovated RV 17

Shane is retired Air Force, and he and his wife, Patty are enjoying full-time RV life in a campground where they work for the campground in exchange for their camping spot.

That is an awesome way for them to save tons on their living expenses! Now that they are empty-nesters, they were able to downsize and get rid of most of their stuff so they can live a simpler life. And even though they’re stationary for now, they do plan to travel once their son graduates from college.

We had the opportunity to interview the couple about their choice to live tiny and downsize, so be sure to read that Q&A at the end of the photo tour. Check out how amazing their renovation is!

The Granary: Rustic Chic Early 1900s Cottage

It’s always lovely when an old building gets new life, and that’s the case of this little cabin on a 2-acre farm property with lush grass and gardens.

While the structure isn’t insulated, they have a small heater and electric blankets for cool-weather camping, or you can enjoy it in the summertime! There’s an RV toilet and gravity-fed water system for washing hands.

Do you have any old buildings on your property that could use a new life?

Cabin+20

If you’re looking for plans for a compact tiny house that would be fairly easy to tow, this “Cabin” model from Tiny Easy is a great choice. It’s a very modern design that packs in everything you *need* in a home, while getting rid of all the extras.

It has a simple cube design, which would probably make the DIY process a bit easier (fewer angles to cut just right). As expected, this 16-foot layout includes a loft bedroom, but it also how a twin-sized couch area that could easily double as a downstairs bed if you needed it.

You can purchase the plans for this home design online here.

Uno by Tiny Easy 5

While plenty of people do attempt a tiny home build without official plans, directions can make the entire process go more smoothly, especially if you don’t have any design/construction background. That’s why I love the plans from Tiny Easy, like this “Uno” model that has a single floor layout.

Without a loft it’s much more senior-friendly. The bedroom holds a queen-sized bed, closed off with a sliding barn door. It has an L-shaped kitchen with space for a full oven, fridge and even a washer/dryer unit. There’s a defined living room, and a bathroom with a simple shower and toilet set-up.

You can purchase the plans online for $199 and get started on your tiny today!

paradise tiny homes oasis model 6

A woman in Maui commissioned Paradise Tiny Houses to build her a custom Oasis model complete with quartz countertops, a bathtub with a custom dome window, and an awesome fully-functional kitchen with an under-mount sink.

This will be her primary residence, and wow would I love to live in this beautiful build! By far the coolest feature of her home is the giant round picture window where they placed a dining area. It really allows you to feel like you’re eating outdoors and brings in tons of natural light.

Enjoy the photo tour of this gem below, and get in touch with the builder for your own Oasis (starts at $189K) here.

A-Frame in Michigan’s UP Built w/ LaMar’s Plans 4

We’ve introduced you to LaMar Alexander’s A-Frame Plans before, but it’s always fun to see a fully-finished build based off of the PDF plans. Our reader, Blitztog, sent in some pictures of the A-frame he built using the plans. It was a “spare time project” for him, and the building sits in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Take a look at the pictures below, and buy the plans yourself here.

She’s a Poet on a Journey in Her Skoolie

A few years ago, AnSperry saw #buslife on Instagram and was hooked — but it wasn’t until COVID hit and she lost her job that she decided at last to jump into a skoolie and “follow the universe” wherever it leads her.

She’s been bus-ing it since October, and named her conversion “This Poet’s Journey.” The interior features her own artwork and a lovely color pallet of white and copper. She has a queen-sized bed in her room, along with a large open shower stall made from leftover tiles.

Tiny Home Tours has blessed us with a video tour of her place which you can watch below, and be sure to follow AnSperry on Instagram.
