Meet ATLAS, a solar-powered, off-grid tiny house on wheels that was featured on HGTV’s Tiny House, Big Living (Season 1, Episode 13). We originally featured this tiny house back in 2016 and it’s still turning heads. Now available for $45,000 in Hardy, Virginia.
Built in 2015, the Atlas features a striking design on a steel tube frame with light-gauge steel construction, making it exceptionally durable while keeping the weight manageable at 11,000 lbs on an 8′ x 18′ trailer.

A Glass Wall That Changes Everything
The standout feature of the Atlas is its full glass wall that opens completely, transforming the tiny interior into an expansive indoor-outdoor living space. When opened, a fold-down deck with bar stools extends the living area outside, creating a perfect spot for morning coffee or evening drinks while taking in the surrounding landscape.
Above the glass wall, a fold-up awning provides shade and weather protection, allowing you to enjoy the open-air experience even on sunny or lightly rainy days.
Solar-Powered Off-Grid Living
The Atlas was designed from the ground up for off-grid independence. The integrated systems include:
- Solar panels mounted on the roof for electrical power
- Rainwater collection system that channels water from the roof, filters it, and stores it in the belly of the house
- 35-gallon rain barrel for additional water storage
- Hot water heater for comfortable showers and washing
Warm, Thoughtful Interior
Step inside and you’ll find warm cedar wood walls and ceiling that give the space a cozy, cabin-like feel. The living area features a day bed / couch that doubles as seating and sleeping space, with a loft bed above for the primary sleeping area.
The kitchen area includes counter space, a small refrigerator, and essentials for cooking. At the back, the bathroom features white subway tile and a separate toilet. The loft bedroom above is accessed by a ladder and framed in black steel, adding an industrial touch to the otherwise warm interior.
The hemp oil-sealed decking provides a natural, chemical-free finish throughout, and recessed lighting keeps the space bright without cluttering the ceiling.
Built to Last
Unlike most tiny houses that use traditional wood framing, the Atlas is built on a steel tube frame with light-gauge steel studs. This construction method offers superior durability, resistance to moisture and pests, and a longer lifespan. The exterior features a mix of white metal cladding and cedar siding panels, giving it a modern, clean aesthetic.
Steps on both sides of the house, plus a back deck, provide multiple entry and exit points, and the entire structure sits on a dual-axle trailer for mobility.
