Built in the late 1800s and moved to its current location in the 1970s, this restored historic cabin sits on 50 private acres of woodland along the Appomattox River in Virginia. A couple purchased it in 2020, restored it with beautifully curated decor, and turned it into one of the most charming Airbnb stays in the state — complete with a fireplace, a romantic upstairs bedroom, a functional kitchen, and 50 acres of trails to explore.

How They Found the Cabin
Matt and Erin own a real estate firm and were in the process of building their first Airbnb cottage in White Stone, Virginia when Matt spotted this cabin on Zillow in December 2019. They made a deal: if it was still available by February 1, 2020, they would at least go see it. It was — and the moment they reached the end of the half-mile-long, tree-lined driveway, they were in love.
The Cabin’s Journey Through Time
The cabin was originally built by a Dr. Pugh in the late 19th century, about 20 miles from where it sits today. His widow had it moved in the 1970s to be closer to her beau across the river. She sold it shortly after, and it changed hands a couple more times — including to a painter who bought it in the late 90s — before Matt and Erin purchased it in 2020.

The Property and Surroundings
Nestled among mature hardwood trees atop a bluff overlooking the Appomattox River, the cabin is a half-mile from the nearest road. The 50 acres sit in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains with trails, forest, and river access. All windows have screens, so guests can open them and listen to the birds, the breeze, and the river below.

Love the outside, hate the modern interior. I would have loved to see a more cozy crountry interior.
I agree
Totally agree. I feel they should have done the interior romantic and of the era the cabin was built. So dislike the modern they’ve done. Not welcoming at all.
I AGREE, LOVE THE CABIN BUT NOT THE MODERN DECORATIONS!!!!
I agree. What a shame to do that to the inside. And no wonder prices are so high.
Stunningly Beautiful cabin but totally disappointed to see all the modern furnishings. It totally took away from the cozy cabin feeling one would expect in an old cabin. Primitive decor would have made the cabin much more homey & suiting the surroundings around the old cabin.
I don’t know what the point was supposed to be by showing a picture of books or someone pouring alcohol. Not impressed with the interior.
It’s an AirBNB, so it’s showing what you have access to when you’re staying there…
Wow… what a gorgeous blend of historical charm and modern convenience. Congratulations on your beautiful restoration.
I love it. Quirky exterior and super nice interior. Obviously the first three commentators don’t agree. But that’s ok, everybody’s different.
Love the outside not so much the inside. Could I stay here Hell Yes I would ruff it and deal with the inside.
I love it
Where can I find it on the Air BnB

Wow, impressive transformation.
I like the interior and the exterior. I love the fact that the cabin is located on fifty acres. I feel like it would be a peaceful retreat.
Love it! The best thing is to own 50 acres plus a historic cabin 😀
