Alexi works as a travel nurse, and a van allows her to have a home away from home while she goes from spot to spot. She initially thought she’d get a cheap old van and throw a mattress in it, but her dad encouraged her to “do it right” and that she did! Her van is lovely with all the features of a home — including a bathroom with a shower!

She chose the controversial “convertible” layout, with a dinette that becomes her bed. This makes the van seem extra open and lovely! The inclusion of a back table that slides out from the garage is a great way to expand the living space outdoors.

Now, this is an inspirational van life story! Caleigh was born with cystic fibrosis, a medical condition that attacks the lungs. She spent the majority of her childhood and adult life seriously ill, and in and out of the hospital. After giving van life a trial run to escape the pollution from California wildfires, she and her husband Brian decided to do van life full-time! With the full support of their families and her medical team, they were able to create a rig and a lifestyle that supports Caleigh’s medical needs and allows her to live life to the fullest. Riley started his nomadic life living out of his CRV, but after discovering how much he enjoyed nomadic life, he decided to purchase a Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. He lived in it for some time without any upgrades, but when he got some garage space for three months, he was able to do his full build-out. Believe it or not, he can sit up to four people for dinner inside his low-top rig.

He kept the counter surfaces open so he can put all his camera gear out or bring up a portable cooktop when he needs to make meals. He doesn’t have a bathroom in his rig, but goes to the gym almost daily and hasn’t found a need for one. You can follow his journey on YouTube!

Abby’s love for an adventurous lifestyle led her to convert her own van! She fit a bike, paddleboard, camping gear, and tools under her bed, so she can enjoy the outdoors. Her conversion was a DIY build, that cost her $37,000. She used plenty of reclaimed materials to keep costs down, but the van’s aesthetic isn’t compromised by her frugality!

She has a fixed queen-sized bed in the back of her van, and a workspace in the front where she does her full-time marketing work. Her kitchen has a sink made from an industrial coffee pot, and a two-burner propane cooktop. Enjoy her energy and excitement for life in the video below.

Annie is an incredible, custom-built van conversion by Safe + Sonder Vans. It has a layout I’ve never seen in a van conversion, with an L-shaped kitchen that divides the bedroom from the rest of the home.

This layout allows for oodles of counter space and a bench seat that can double as a chaise lounge. Plus, the herringbone design on the butcher block counters is dazzling! You’ll love the sneaky trash can storage in the corner of the kitchen as well. Let us know in the comments what you think of the Annie design.

This custom Sprinter van is home to Jordan and Tommy, who use the van to travel throughout New Zealand.  This is their third van, and improves on all the shortcomings of their previous rigs. Both of them worked stressful jobs in the UK before deciding to sell their home and pursue vanlife in Australia. After living there awhile, they got a new van to enjoy New Zealand — and they have no plans to ever go back to homeownership!

The van has a great layout, with double swivel chairs in the front that turn to face a mini couch (which *can*) become a twin bed, although they’ve never used it. The kitchen and bathroom face each other in the middle of the van, and the queen-sized bed takes up the back. They have two more bench seats in front of the bed which house additional storage. Enjoy their tour below!
