This 228 sq. ft. tiny cabin is about 3 miles away from the nearest road so you have to get to the cabin using a snowmobile. The owner/builder (Mike Basich) is a retired pro boarder that still loves to snowboard.

One of the best features of the cabin is that it has a hot tub and a ski lift. Yes. He keeps it simple, straight to the point, and in line with his passion. His electricity comes from solar panels, his heat from firewood, and water from melted snow. So it’s safe to say he’s off the grid. Mike also has a tiny house on wheels he uses to travel around the country with his dog, snowmobile, cameras, and boards.

Do you think living simply could be easy with this tiny house? Although it’s only 100 square feet it has just about everything you need.

In this post I’m excited to share the Hummingbird Loft with you. It’s a 100 sq. ft.tiny house with a sleeping & storage loft made of steel-frame and it’s built on a foundation (not on wheels).

When you walk up the porch and through the front door into the main level you’re greeted by the living room and kitchen.

Keep walking towards the back and you’ll find the bathroom. The ladder takes you up to the sleeping loft and storage area. One of the sleeping lofts is above the front porch, the storage loft is over the living area, and the other sleeping loft is in the rear above the kitchen/bathroom area.

Ready to get the full tour including floor plan and all? I hope you’ll enjoy below.

I thought you’d like to tour Karen’s 265 sq. ft. backyard cottage in Berkeley, CA.

Karen originally intended to use her backyard tiny house for her own personal use but she soon realized renting it out would be a great way to earn extra income.

As you walk onto the front porch and through the french doors to go inside you are greeted by the living area, kitchen and bathroom. And when you go upstairs you have the sleeping loft with storage cabinets.

Karen had New Avenue Homes build this tiny cottage for her right in her backyard. Below you can take a full video tour of the backyard cottage filmed by our friends at Fair Companies.

The purpose of this off grid tiny house was to offer young couples or millennials the ability to live outside the hustle and bustle of the big city.

To have the ability to live off grid in a tiny house while being more environmentally friendly is the idea here.

Initially  research was collected to see what young people wanted.

Data showed not everyone was completely ready to move off-the-grid. Or to even live in a smaller space.

The goal behind this design was to get young couples comfortable with the idea of living small, simple, but not completely off-the-grid.

I can’t help being excited about shipping container tiny homes especially this one you’re about to see which is in Southern Portugal.

I guess it’s the bright color that attracted me to it at first. Then the modern flair the structure has that made me want to share it with you. What a beaut!

The architect Arnold Aarssen from Studio Arte envisions a new way of living using re-purposed containers. Even if it’s just a starter home for young people, a guest house, bed & breakfast, backyard office or art studio.

Made from an old shipping container this 40-foot structure, “could be a great economical living solution”, says Aarssen.

And the main living space is quite spacious while the outdoor terrace provides an inviting atmosphere to hang out in nature. In this model there is one bathroom and an outdoor kitchen.

Straight out of a storybook this sweet little whimsical cottage is a dream come true for Sue Corl and her husband Ron.

The cottages’ design, look and feel was based on Sue’s childhood dream of having a tiny cottage just like Rudolph, Hermey & Yukon Cornelius (from the Classic cartoon Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer).

Thus the name of their tiny home, “The Rudolph Cottage“.

Ron and Sue have been living tiny for over 28 years. After living in a 200 sq. ft. travel trailer for seven years with their two cats and a large dog they decided it was time to up-size (or should I say ‘right-size’?).

So they bought 30 acres of beautiful lush woodland amongst the largest Amish community in central Ohio.

Then they spent over 2 years gathering the perfect materials to create this whimsical fantasy tiny house Sue always dreamed of.

Let’s check it out while I tell you the rest of their very inspiring simple living story…

This June 18, 2014, was the first ever tiny house at the White House (and first Maker Faire there too). Sicily Kolbeck of La Petite Maison brought her tiny house to the President with the help of Teal Brown of Wishbone Tiny Homes, who hauled the home for her.

La Petite Maison (tiny house) was parked under the east portico of the White House. If you were to sit down in the east reception room on this day, you would see Sicily’s tiny house out the window. The proximity of this unique creation to the heart of American power is truly remarkable (see photos below).

Some of you remember the Tall Man Tiny House from a while back.

It’s a tiny home designed by two tall men.

You can get a full tour of the house in this post so you can see what I mean.

Anyway I just wanted to let you know that it seems like their site is coming back up!

So hopefully we’ll be able to buy the Tall Man Tiny House Plans soon if they offer them?

Any time tiny houses make it onto a non-tiny house blog the comments turn to “oh, I could never do that.” When The Tiny Life Infographic that Ryan Mitchell published early this year made it to Gizmodo on Monday, September 2, 2013, the comments began pouring in. The same old objections came up in several ways.

  • Permitting is just impossible.
  • This is only feasible for one person.
  • I couldn’t fit all my stuff in it.
  • Why not just get an RV?

I thought I might take a minute to readdress these objections. Living in a tiny house is not an untested theory. I have been doing it comfortably for over a year and I know several other tiny house dwellers that have happily downsized as well.
