In 1975, Architect William Morgan wanted to build rental properties next to his Atlantic Beach, Florida home.  He only had one problem when trying to decide about building the properties.  He didn’t want to lose his beautiful ocean view.  His solution?  Use the existing sand dune on his property as the foundation and build the homes underground within the dune.  From that thought became the beautifully designed Dune House.

Now famous, the William Morgan Dune House (which is actually two separate, identical units) is 750 square feet and includes one bedroom, one bathroom, an eat-in kitchen and a semi-enclosed patio with ocean view.  The duplex was built using swimming pool technology, a gunite-concrete shell anchored to a cast-concrete floor, covered with a mantle of earth stabilized by native landscaping which helps maintain a 70-degree interior temperature. The beautiful interior features built-in furniture, mostly made of wood, curved walls and is almost identical to a stateroom aboard a ship. The property features breath-taking ocean views.

Art Cormier lives in a tiny house on wheels. But when he travels, he doesn’t take it with him. It’s too heavy. So in this video, he’s going to show you how he turns his VW station wagon into a tiny RV. And you can use his ideas to turn your car, station wagon, or minivan into a tiny motorhome too!

By the way, Art also teaches other people how to design and build tiny houses on wheels at Tumbleweed’s tiny house workshops throughout the country in case you’re interested.

If you want to learn how Art uses his VW station wagon as a micro motorhome when he goes on trips or travels on the road then enjoy the video below. And would you consider turning your current car into a micro RV? Let us know in the comments. Thank you!

Guest Post – How I Built the Cutest DIY Cargo Trailer (aka Micro Cabin) Ever

This project was done as a way to quickly and inexpensively enclose my 6’x10′ utility trailer to protect my cargo during transport to the Blue Ridge Mountains where I would start building my own tiny cabin. So I figured, “why not make it cute and practical at the same time?” I bought the trailer new and then built the enclosure around it for about $400 in materials and about a month of labor on my spare time.

I built it on the fly with no plans since it was only intended to keep the rain off my stuff and allow me to lock it up at night. If I hadn’t used reclaimed materials for much of it, I could have finished it a lot faster. But because I used reclaimed materials it took a lot of creative manipulation to make it all work.

Back in 2011, I showed you SignaTours teardrop campers, but did you know that they also build tiny houses? This is “Our Little Secret on St. George Island,” a tiny house vacation by the sea in Florida!

It’s 8′ x 24′ so approximately 192 square feet of space without including the sleeping loft.
