When she was 12 years old she started building her own debt-free tiny house.

This all started around January 2013. It’s just about a year and 4 months later now and she’s finished the project.

Sicily now owns her own debt-free 128 sq. ft. tiny home on wheels that she built herself.

This is the story of Ethan Waldman’s mortgage-free tiny house that he designed and built himself! What an incredible shortcut to mortgage-freedom, right? A tiny house… yes!

He built it for way less than today’s average home and is already enjoying the debt-free lifestyle that most of us work decade after decade for only to get there run down and beat up… With tiny homes, this is changing.

I just had to show you Tim and Hannah’s off-the-grid 196 sq. ft. micro cabin.

They built it themselves completely in Tahoe, California and have been living in it for almost two years.

The couple started off with 20 acres and absolutely no blueprints.

But I’m sure they had tons of ideas that they had gathered online while dreaming about the project years before.

So here’s what they came up with… And it was all completely DIY with the intention of creating a space for living simply.

Shaye and Tom are a young couple who decided to design and build their own tiny house in West Auckland, New Zealand. It measures 7.2 meters long by 2.4 meters wide which translates to approximately 24′ x 8′. Or a total of 15 square meters (or 161 square feet).

They’ve only been living in it for two weeks as of the filming of the video tour and interview you can watch below thanks to the folks at Living Big in a Tiny House. What’s really inspiring is that the couple had never built anything like this before. They were able to learn most of what they needed by watching videos on the Internet.

What might be even more inspiring is that they’re only going to spend a total of about $20,000 to build it themselves. And that’s all with very high-quality materials used for the build.

This article will show you how one couple built their very own mortgage-free small house for $5,900 and how you might be able to do the same using reclaimed materials that are inexpensive and many times completely free. All it takes is your dedication and labor. I’m handing it over to Deputy Gene now. Thank you for reading. – Alex

My wife and I decided to build a small house as cheaply as we could as a weekend getaway. We had a relative who worked at a lumber supply house and would call us whenever they had seconds on sale. We purchased anything they had figuring we would need it eventually. We worked every weekend I had off and it took us a little over a year to finish. Here it is about four weekends into the project.

Can you imagine living in your truck, van, or car just so you can pay off your debt?

That’s what this 27 year old student, Andy, decided to do so he can pay off his $11,000 credit card.

Thank you, Steven, for sharing this video clip on Facebook.

Andy decided to leave his $800 per month apartment and turn the bed of his pick up truck into a bedroom.

Why? Well, I think this may help sum it up for you:

  • He’s a full time college student
  • Working part-time

His credit card balance every month was going untouched. In other words, he wasn’t getting ahead at all.

So Andy did what he had to do: take matters into his own hands. He..

  • Put all of his stuff in storage
  • And began sleeping in his truck

He was immediately able to begin putting all of that money that was going into rent ($800/mo) into paying off his credit card debt.

How did he remain sane? He joined a rock climbing gym and that’s where he showers.

Besides that he eats simple foods and uses the College campus to study and use the Internet during the day.

What kind of sacrifices would you, or are currently undertaking, in order to get ahead for your future?
