I had the chance to capture this tiny pink guest cottage in Florida a few days ago and wanted to share it with you here.
The owner didn’t have the exact dimensions but it’s definitely less than 500 sq. ft. and she was nice enough to let me take pictures inside and out for me to share with you.
This is what I call a grandfathered-in tiny cottage here in Florida because you can no longer build this small in this seaside town.
The cottage is also rare because it hasn’t been added onto like most of the ones that are still around in the area. It’s pretty much in its original state besides general upkeep and maintenance throughout the years.

I only wish they still built homes like this today instead of the oversized cookie cutter homes we normally see being developed around here.
Anyway, I encourage you to enjoy touring the rest of this beautiful tiny house on a foundation below:

I thought you’d also like this off grid solar tiny cabin this morning.
And it even has a yurt nearby that functions as a little guest house for visitors.
This is the off-grid homestead of Dan Timmerman who is a cyclocross racer.
His teammate, Dan Chabanov, photographed the home which is in the Finger Lakes of New York.

A Guest Post by Ethan – (Send us your tiny living story)
My name is Ethan, and my girlfriend Kelsey and I have been living in 100 square feet for about 6 months so far. Our journey to tiny house living started last October when I started looking around for a trailer to build my own house on.
By November I had found a great deal ($1500 for the trailer) on craigslist and got started on the project immediately. When December came around I had my shell built and over the next couple of months, I worked on the interior. It took me around 6 months total but that was mostly due to my work schedule and only having Tuesdays to build and the weather also rained me out a couple of weeks in February.

How would your life be with no mortgage, no car, and a teeny tiny house to call home? When I first heard about Tammy Strobel and her husband Logan they were living simply in a minimalist apartment. Today they are living in their own mortgage-free tiny house on wheels designed and built by PAD Tiny Houses.
But why? Around six years ago Tammy was dissatisfied with her life because she was commuting for two hours every day just to go to a job that she didn’t even like. They were $30k in debt, owned two cars, and were living in a two-bedroom apartment. So Logan suggested they downsize.

If you already haven’t seen this 136 sq. ft. Molecule Tiny Home you’re in for a treat. To me, it’s one of the best designed and best built little houses on wheels out there. And it’s their 5th design and build. At 8’x17′ it’s one of their smallest, too.
But they were still able to add a lot of functionality, comfort, and beauty to the home as you’ll see. One of the most notable features is the fold up deck but there’s a lot more that will stand out once you go inside.

This 140-square-foot tiny house on wheels sits on a 20′ x 8′ utility trailer.
It’s designed to be self-sufficient and is the home of Vina Lustado at Sol Haus Design.
She will use portable solar panels and a passive solar heating/cooling approach to go off the grid.
The walls, ceilings, and floors are highly insulated to help with this, and a propane gas fireplace provides additional heating.
Like most tiny homes, this one has an upstairs sleeping loft with a big skylight so you can see the moon and stars before bedtime.
Unlike most skylights in tiny houses, this one can open to let in the breeze. Here, I’ll show you below:

- 3 burner stove with oven

I’ve been wanting to talk about open source housing for a while now which is something you’ve probably never heard of yet.
For a while I’ve known that sometime in the near future housing is going to drastically change thanks to the internet and technology. When I put together this post last year is when I truly realized it.
The good part is that this will most likely reduce the price of building a house because it reduces the need for labor and design.
So today I wanted to introduce you to an idea called WikiHouse. It’s open source housing. Like Wikipedia but for real life stuff.
Open Source Housing & Construction
The idea is that you would be able to browse and choose through an ever growing amount of house and furniture designs that are free and open source.
Is this serious?
Yes. This isn’t just an idea anymore. It’s real. At the bottom of this post I’ll introduce you to some people who have already built their own tiny home using these methods. And there are photos to prove it, too! If you already haven’t, check out this Solar House in Barcelona that was built like this and continue reading below:
