“The Nest” is a tiny house on wheels (6’x6′) with a storage loft. It’s my second tiny house. You can see my first one, “The Darling” here.
I lived in this one for 7 months, then because I was making plans to work in AZ in a contract position, and would be going back and forth from AZ to NC so much, I sold that tiny house and bought a tiny bus.
It was green with a stained door. You can see it all below.

I bought a 14′ trailer, but because of poor construction, had to build a 10′ long house instead which meant really changing the plans, but now that I have it, I absolutely love it.
It is built mostly from scraps, bargains, and recycled materials including old 100 year old stable boards from which I pulled a gallon bucket full of old rusty nails.
The boards were used for the outside and inside of the home and add a very warm rustic feel against which I put a lot of white trim and furniture. There is a composting toilet.
I worked on the house for 2 years and I lived in it for 6 months and sold it so I could build one that I’d be able to pull with my car (The Nest Tiny House). I even built an off grid solar generator for some power, so now I sleep with a fan pulling in wonderful cool air through the windows. It’s great!

Hi Alex and Tiny House Newsletter readers… Like you, I love tinkering around designing/building tiny houses especially as small as a house as possible but still have all the conveniences that you find in a ‘McMansion’.
I know the idea about tiny living is supposed to be living with less but if you can cram everything into a small- less than 300 sq. ft.- moveable home without making it claustrophobic…
Why not, right?

I’d also like to show you a 28′ design that’s obviously a bit shorter. It has less square footage but it could be used as a 3 bedroom young family tiny home or just a backyard guest building by utilizing two sleeping lofts. Check it out and let me know what you think below:
I thought you might like this 429 sq. ft. studio house by José Valente. It’s a modern design that I see working well as a standalone tiny home (as shown) or even as micro apartments in a building.
But this modern tiny cabin is one-of-a-kind and located in V. N. e Gaia, Portugal. All the Comforts of Home in 429 Sq. The Shepherd Hut has been around for hundreds of years and primarily in England, but now they are available in America (Update: It appears they’ve gone out of business). They can be used as a guest house, a romantic retreat, a special workplace, a retail space for food service or dry goods. Another interesting use of these huts is to rent them out on a nightly basis, like a bed and breakfast.
This particular Shepherds Hut micro cabin has an exterior dimension of 8 feet wide by 14 feet long. The interior space is approximately 7 feet wide by 13 feet long and can be set up with a number of different configurations. The walls are clad in profiled tongue and groove boards as is the ceiling and the floor is hardwood oak. The hut has been wired with six outlets and protected with a GFI circuit and overhead light. The hut is fully insulated and includes a vapor barrier. The metal roof is a rustic copper style. There are four insulated glass double hung windows that flood the interior with natural light. The Dutch door allows for an even more expansive view when open. The chassis is classic Shepherd’s hut and has a turntable-based front axle that allows for steering. The metal wheels are individually handcrafted and are fitted with tapered roller bearings that connect to the axles. The front tow-bar allows for different types of vehicles to move the hut around.

Hello Alex (and Tiny House Newsletter readers), after some years of following the spread of tiny houses across the country through your site and others, my dream of owning one is now realized.
I am the proud resident of a less than 800 square foot 2-bedroom home in the country. The house was designed and hand-built by my retired parents and myself in only four months and cost about $15,000 to build.
Previously, the house was an unfinished storage building and small carport. It had limited electrical wiring and no plumbing. We designed the house to utilize the original roofline, enclosed the carport to become the two bedrooms and bathroom, and added a small porch onto the back.

I have a micro home with a 10’x10′ footprint with a loft. The inside is typical of many tiny houses: small living area, tiny wet bath, small kitchen and a loft area at the front and back accessed by a ladder.
Unlike most tiny houses of similar size, this one is made using modular, composite steel technology (CST), a patented process that uses tubular steel and dense foam to create an R20 rating on the panels. There is no wood in the construction of the walls, floor and roof. It’s about half the weight of wood and almost half the cost.

Hi Alex and Tiny House Newsletter readers, I’ve recently completed (and sold) a 20′ shipping container conversion.
I did it all almost on my own with the exception of electric and plumbing, working out of a storage unit and wanted to share it with you.
It’s just under 160 sq. ft. and has a full kitchen, bathroom with toilet and shower, flat screen TV, and more.

Hi Alex and Tiny House Newsletter readers, I thought you might enjoy seeing some pics of my 450 sq. ft. duplex units.
I’ve been renovating it for the past year and a half and I’m closing in on the finish line.
These units are reverse floor plans of each other and are approximately 450 square feet each of living space and each side has a one car garage.
It’s a bit of a senior citizen, built in 1948 and has kept me on my toes since getting it.
At this point, I think I’ve touched, or had someone touch just about every square inch of the place. Enjoy my home. 🙂
