I find it unbelievable that, after submitting my first tiny house article last month, I have received hundreds of personal emails from all over the world, connecting me to THOW enthusiasts who have asked some intelligent, positive questions. Many wanted some additional photos and construction details about my tiny house innovations … others just wanted to share their joy.

To my many new friends, I offer the following article, along with my solidarity, gratitude, and sincere thanks.

How I Designed/Built a Lightweight THOW

Petes Smart Framing Tiny Houses on Wheels 001

Insulation, smart framing, weight reduction, SIP’s, building costs, design, energy saving, recycling, innovation… each tiny house builder has different goals, different styles, different needs and different values – I’ll share my personal favourites:

A handful of Biome off-grid yurts have been installed throughout Gatineau Park in Québec, Canada, as an accommodation solution for outdoor enthusiasts who want to extend their stay in the park.

These contemporary yurts have a propane fridge and BBQ, a solar panel, and a wood stove. The structure is made with a wooden trellis, weatherproof canvas, and a dome skylight at the centre which provides ample natural light.  During warmer months, the dome can be lifted with a metal crank rod to allow fresh air to enter, and heat to escape.

Mat and Danielle from Exploring Alternatives think this yurt could be an interesting tiny house alternative based on its (relative) portability and affordability, as well as the fact that yurts are considered a temporary structure in many municipalities.  The interior design and floor plan could easily be adapted for a more cozy, homey atmosphere instead of the current utilitarian setup. You can see a video tour and photos of the yurt below.

This is a tiny home on wheels just recently finished by Michelle Boyle, a tiny house designer, builder, occupant, and enthusiast.

She calls this cozy, cute, and rustic creation which she spent the last 15 months fashioning, “My Empty Nest.”

The nest sits beside the trees surrounded by lawn, and on the outside, the home is encased in beautiful paneling. Step inside and you’ll be wowed by a tiled kitchen, exposed beams, a French door, full stove, retro refrigerator, and a loft featuring more reclaimed wood.

Please enjoy, learn more, and re-share below. Thank you!

This is a tiny house illustration shared by one of our readers, Annemieke Spruijt, of Marsha Cowan’s The Darling Tiny House on Wheels.

I don’t live in a tiny house, but in a tiny country and a cozy apartment :-). I love tiny houses though, and I love to draw. So recently I made a watercolor illustration, inspired by Marsha Cowan’s My Darling Tiny House on Wheels. I put it on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/BAuQ1aJKC0T/?taken-by=miekesmakes and I hereby send you 2 pictures as attachments.
I know Marsha’s is not the current owner anymore. But perhaps she knows who is? It might be funny for that person (or Marsha still) to see the drawing I made? Maybe you could forward my email to them?

Thank you!

Kind groetjes from the Netherlands,

Annemieke Spruijt
