Mónica and João are an amazing couple who have overcome a lot of adversity in the last seven years! They now live part-time in an adorable camper conversion. I’ll let them tell their story….
Having a motorhome was an old dream of ours. When we met, about 7 years ago, we immediately arranged a trip to Gerês (North of Portugal) a week after we started dating. And over the last few years we have been cultivating a taste for discovering other realities, traveling through Portugal and across borders. We got married in 2021 and the wedding theme was traveling, so it has always been something that brought us together…

The “Royal Scott” is a converted double-decker bus in Portland, Oregon that operated as a successful Airbnb. The entire upper deck serves as a bedroom and lounge area, while the first floor contains a kitchenette with induction cooktop, dining area, and seating space. A half bath with Nature’s Head composting toilet is located near the driver’s cab. The bus features mid-century modern inspired design with custom murals from its previous life as the Grilled Cheese Grill, fresh exterior paint, and RV water and electric hookups. Note: The engine is non-functional (caught fire in the 1980s), requiring towing to any new location.

Tom and Jodie aren’t quite retirement age, but with an empty nest they were ready for a new chapter and didn’t want to wait another 20 or so years of work to get there! So they sold their home, purged a lifetime of belongings, and built out a Bluebird bus.
Their 35-foot bus got a professionally-done 20-inch roof-raise, but they did the rest of the work themselves. Tom chose to put all the plumbing inside the bus, so they don’t have to worry about freezing temperatures. Let us know what you think in the comments!
