Lex and Liam decided to take on the amazing — and massive — project of converting a school bus into a tiny home on wheels. But their conversion is even more unique because they’ve been living in it during the conversion process!
For a year and a half, they’ve been making progress on the build, and it’s really starting to look like a home, complete with a beautifully tiled shower, spacious countertops, and a wood-burning stove. See how it’s all coming together below!

When these empty nesters moved from Texas to California, they never imagined they’d choose full-time life on the water! But they discovered that purchasing a boat home was far more affordable than they’d originally thought, and they are now celebrating 5 years of marina life.
After two years in a smaller boat, they upgraded to 1988 DeFever 44 Trawler. It has a large main bedroom, a forward berth for guests, and two heads. In their kitchen (galley) you’ll find a bunch of adorable red retro appliances which they use to cook and entertain their friends.
And their decks, of course, provide an awesome place to enjoy the sunny San Diego weather. Watch their tour below!

When Johnny thought he was getting a new Navy position that would have him deploying more frequently, he chose to rent out his home and purchase a 1981 CHB Ed Monk Trawler to use as his home base wherever he went (rather than paying rent in a number of cities).
The Navy ended up cancelling that job altogether, but Johnny kept the boat and now he teaches other Navy sailors to drive boats, continues to rent out his home, and lives full-time on his trawler. We actually showed you his buddy’s trawler some months ago, and the two of them enjoy hanging out in the water around San Diego.

It took married couple Edwin and Clara 2.5 years to build it, but they moved into their very own DIY THOW just a month before California went into lockdown due to coronavirus. Their home sits on 27 acres in Northern CA — the absolute perfect spot to shelter-in-place.
This home was a true labor of love, with it’s post-and-beam construction created from wood they milled at a friend’s wood mill! They were both incredibly dissatisfied with their concrete jungle lifestyle in San Diego, where they worked too many hours and struggled financially. Their DIY home cost $30,000 to build, but it’s given them a new freedom with their time and more connection to the nature all around them.

The Swifts were paying $2,000/month for their condo in San Diego, but when Heather and Michael decided they wanted to have more time with their son and be able to home school, Heather decided to quit her $60K/year job. This meant something had to give!
Heather’s parents lived outside of the city, near her brother, and offered to allow them to park on their property. So the couple sold just about everything, bought a new 5th wheel RV, and moved! Now they have far more family time (including time with cousins!), are paying down debt quickly, and enjoying minimalism.
Their RV features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a spacious living area/kitchen. While they didn’t do a full reno on the place, they’ve truly made the place their home. Just about 6 months ago Clay and Bridgette sold their 1600 sq ft house and downsized into a 230 sq ft school bus! They’re now living debt-free in San Diego, California with their dog, Piper, and cat, Shadow.
Both Clay and Bridgette (@ourdaggonebus on Instagram) are Active Duty Navy and found they weren’t using most of the space in their larger home. While they weren’t ready to commit to a tiny van, a bus allowed them to downsize and still feel comfortable in their space. They were kind enough to answer some questions about bus life, which you can find at the end of the post!
