Things are speeding up! A critical hearing in Hartford, Connecticut, is just one month away, and we are heading into the final stretch of a multi-year mission to make tiny homes legalized and recognized in the International Residential Code (IRC).

Why This Matters
For years, tiny homes have lived in a “legal gray area.” Without clear recognition in the building code, owners face inconsistent enforcement, limited placement options, and difficulty securing insurance.
Proposal RB42-25 aims to change that by formally recognizing relocatable tiny homes in the IRC. If we succeed now, it will provide a standardized, safe, and legal pathway for tiny homes nationwide.

The co-proponents have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, developing testimony and refining the technical details. We are thrilled to announce that Nabil Kausal (Tiny House Giant Journey), a structural engineer and architect, will join the team in Hartford to speak directly to engineering concerns.
How You Can Help
Only two elements remain for this mission to succeed: Funding and Public Support. We need to show the officials in Hartford that there is an overwhelming demand for this housing choice.
1. Sign the Petition
The goal is to bring 15,000 names to Hartford. Every signature represents a voice for housing choice and affordability.

2. Support the GoFundMe
While so much time has been donated, we still have hard costs to cover—including transportation for our experts, lodging in Hartford, and essential engineering fees.
👉 Donate to the GoFundMe Campaign
3. Share the Mission
If you know anyone in the tiny house industry or anyone who supports affordable housing, please share these links and introduce us!

Around 2019-2020 the zoning in the nearby counties of urban communities of Louisville and Lexington changed to allow ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units).
Two years later, in rural Boyle County the zoning was re-written and it followed suit. We had to pay attention to when the City of Danville was making changes to their zoning. Some meeting attendees feared an increase in AirBnBs and higher traffic and parking challenges. We attended and spoke up and I’ve been happily and legally housed in a 320 sq ft. ‘tiny house’ on my son’s property since Sept. 2020.
This is rural “Kentuck’.
If it can happen here it can happen anywhere. Do your research, check out the zoning , go the meetings have your say and make your argument.
I cannot sign the petition thru the link provided – doesn’t work, tried multiple times !
