Solarpunk Steve recently shared some exciting news: he has won a government contract to build a massive solar-powered trailer for a county emergency management department. This project represents a major step forward for Steve, who is documenting the entire build journey daily on his YouTube channel.

Building for Disaster Relief and Community Resilience
The contract involves constructing a mobile solar power generator housed within a 7×14 ft tandem-axle enclosed cargo trailer. Designed for disaster relief and community events, the trailer will feature a 3 to 4 kW solar array and a substantial battery bank with 20 to 40 kWh of storage. A 240V split-phase inverter will allow it to power a wide range of emergency equipment.
Steve has a tight deadline to complete the build, and he is sharing every step of the process—from navigating federal terms and conditions to the technical challenges of mounting a custom tilting solar array. It’s a fascinating look into the world of sustainable technology and government contracting.
