Abandoned Shed Exploration: Small Structure Survival in Florida Everglades

This abandoned shed discovered in the Florida Everglades demonstrates the durability of small structures over time. Despite weathering and neglect, the shed remains standing while a larger adjacent structure has completely collapsed to its foundation. The contrast illustrates how compact buildings often outlast larger ones when left to the elements.

  • Simple Construction Endures: Basic shed designs resist deterioration better than complex structures
  • Florida Weather Tests Buildings: Everglades humidity and storms challenge any construction
  • Smaller Footprints Mean Less Maintenance: Reduced surface area limits weather exposure
  • Historical Structures Inspire Modern Designs: Abandoned buildings demonstrate lasting construction techniques

That ‘shed’ appears to be a 50-70 year old garage.

Hi Paul, I really like the job you did on the micro home. I too like the fact that it is not on wheels. I am also a year away from 80 and really appreciate the fact that a person does not have to crawl up a ladder and into a loft to sleep. We are doing a great deal of research here and will be adding a more practical designed toilet system to our micro home here this spring. You did a great job!Walt Barrett
