Brenda Kelly’s off grid shipping container tiny house is truly a dream come true for her since she has been dreaming of a home like this since she was a 13 year old girl.

She kept part of the container as a covered outdoor porch area to keep the structure at 107 sq. ft. (10 square meters) so she can abide with her local zoning regulations in Auckland, New Zealand.

When you look inside I think you’ll be impressed with her interior design and layout choices. Brenda has managed to create a work at home office space, kitchen, living room area, a bedroom with a wardrobe, and a spacious bathroom.

This container home sits on concrete blocks for a foundation, it’s powered by two solar panels, and is even set up with a rainwater collection system.

man-builds-5k-tiny-house-for-family

This man with a family of 4 (and 5th on the way) started his tiny house project in August of 2012 and finished it August 2013 while working part-time. He did all of the work himself and found much of the materials he used for the build on Craigslist.

By using salvaged materials, including a free travel trailer that he stripped down completely, he was able to finish the entire tiny home for less than $5,000. But it did take a lot of work in terms of labor.

Recently the family has given away their tiny house to a minister in New York and they are now preparing to buy a large 5th wheel travel trailer so they can travel the country together as a family. Please enjoy the videos below to learn more.

tiny-dorm-shelters-at-frank-lloyd-wrights-taliesin-architecture-school-0011

This video takes you on a guided tour of a 500 acre property created by Frank Lloyd Wright in the desert of Scottsdale, Arizona. There are several creative tiny shelters, dorms, and cabins on the property all designed and built as experiments by the architecture students.

You’ll find a hanging tent, a few cabins, a canvas tent shelter, and more. Students of the Taliesin Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture also get access to a communal kitchen and a studio to work with.

When the students arrive, they’re able to choose a structure to live in for the duration of their stay at the school. Usually this is several months. Then they can choose to remodel, rehab, and work on a current shelter or design and build their own from scratch on the property.

WOMAN-BUILDS-TINY-HOUSE-FOR-10K-IN-10-MONTHS-06

She built her tiny house on wheels for about $10,000 in only 10 months and she did it without the help of a builder.

Her tiny home has a solar panel, rain gutters for water collection, and is built right onto an 8×16 trailer so she can legally tow it and move it if she wanted to. It has a 12V LED porch light on the covered front porch. When you go inside you’ll see she has a kitchen, bathroom, living area, closet, and upstairs sleeping loft. She built her tiny house on a 8×16 trailer. It has a custom built 2′ wide screen door she created with a decorative sun on it (see below). She also made her own door mat from a rope. And she even harvests her own spring water from a nearby spring whose water originates underground.

Young lady’s $10k tiny house! She built it herself in 10 months time without the help of a builder.
